In this workshop, participants will discover online platforms, tools, and databases to refine their selections for publishing venues as well as how to best evaluate journals, books, and publishers for publication.             6.  NAVIGATING DIFFICULT DIALOGUES

            Difficult conversations happen – and they are never easy! Ignoring them may feel less risky, however this can lead to problems in the future. In this interactive session we will discuss starting hard conversations, handling emotions, de-escalation techniques, and practice self-care afterward.             Kids’ Night Out returns! Free childcare for graduate student families at the VT Women’s Center, 6:30-8:00 on Thursday evenings when classes are in session. There will be games, crafts, snacks, maybe a movie, and fun with the sitters! We invite master’s and doctoral scholars researching in the humanities, humanistic social sciences, and natural, physical, and computational sciences. Use our easy Abstract Submission Portal to send us an abstract for a talk or poster session the by deadline: November 5, 2025 (11:59 p.m. ET).             18. GRADUATE SCHOOL SEEKING GRADUATE STUDENT TOUR GUIDES – 2nd posting
            The Graduate School is seeking graduate students to serve as tour guides to prospective graduate students for the 2025-26 academic year. Applicants must have good communication skills, an eagerness to share VT with others, familiarity with campus location, and be willing to conduct at least 3 tours a semester. Tours are typically 1 hour. Applicants must also have a current valid driver’s license, though walking tours will also be offered. Tour guides will be provided with training and will receive a small stipend at the end of each semester.             20. MICROSOFT 365 WORKSHOPS FOR FALL – 2nd posting (2/2)
            The Division of IT is offering a series of online courses designed to introduce users to Microsoft 365 tools available at Virginia Tech, including Outlook, Teams, Copilot AI, and Windows 11. Each 1-hour course will include an overview of the tool, explore its features and benefits, and demonstrate its various uses for collaboration within research groups, classes, and projects.             The Graduate School invites submissions of artwork and photography by graduate students for the beautification of the building during the fall semester and beyond.             22. SUMMER GA POSITION FOR SCIENCE OUTREACH – 1st posting
            This position runs from May 10-Aug 9, 2026 (end date negotiable). The GA will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Outreach to help administer and run outreach programs held in the summer of 2026. The summer programs include five residential science camps for middle and high school students and a professional development workshop for science teachers. Summer position runs May 10-Aug 9, 2026 (end date negotiable). Duties include: Complete Office of Youth Protection training; Serve in a residential capacity for 3 of the 5 weeks of camps; Supervise camp staff, and serve on call; Plan and participate in after-hours team-building activities with campers and RAs; Lead daily student staff check-ins during camps; Help with program logistics, including: Signing in/out campers at the start/end of each camp; Manage crises, as needed, e.g., a sick camper, behavioral issues. Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree or higher, Professional, responsible and timely; Must have a valid US driver’s license and a safe driving record; Willing to drive self and campers as needed; Must pass background checks; Must be on campus during all camps and much of the summer term.             ICAT is seeking proposals for interdisciplinary, creative, and innovative projects demonstrating strong potential to advance the goals of ICAT and its partners.
            1. Mini SEAD Grants: The Mini SEAD grants of up to $6,000 in funding for faculty projects.
            Who can apply: Faculty-led teams from at least two different disciplines or colleges.

            26. THE CATHERINE HINMAN MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP – DEADLINE: JANUARY 9, 2026
            Is a fully funded program that enables talented students who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience a summer in Washington, DC. Prepare for these by piloting a training module From Research to Reach: Translating Research Impact into Engaging Content. This self-paced course guides learners through two key skills: (1) Writing a strong impact statement that clearly communicates the importance and outcomes of your work. (2) Translating that impact statement into a social media strategy—including setting up or refining a profile, identifying your audiences, and crafting tailored, engaging content.
