5. GLC 120 SUMMER HOURS WEEK OF JUNE 1-5, 2026 – 1st posting (1/1)
The GLC will be open for walk-in hours this week on Monday, June 1, and Thursday, June 5, 11am-3pm.
6. GRADUATE LIFE CENTER SUMMER CLOSURE – 1st posting
- The GLC will be closed to the public, including all graduate students, between June 8 – August 16, due to renovations in the Squires Student Center. All GLC swipe card access will be terminated during this period.
- Signage on all building doors will provide detailed instructions regarding how to contact various Graduate School offices and ombuds for assistance.
- There will be no drop-in student services during this time. Students may connect with the Graduate School team by email (grads@vt.edu) or schedule a zoom meeting.
- Bryan Hanson/Ombuds services will be available in the Newman Library in Room 427 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10:00am-3:00pm. Students may schedule in-person meetings in this space.
- The weekly GLC cafe will be moved to the CID on Thursdays only, 3:30-5pm.
- The GLC Food Share Pantry will be moved to the Graduate Student Lounge located on the 4th floor of Newman Library
- Notary services must be arranged in advance by emailing to grads@vt.edu or to the individual notaries to set up an appointment. Recommended location to meet the student: Newman Library.

11. GRA POSITION IN ASSET DATA MANAGEMENT USING AUTODESK REVIT – 1st posting (1/1)
The position is a 20-hr per week wage position. Selected student will be expected to work Monday through Thursday in-person, with flexibility of some hours being remote upon faculty in-charge’s approval.
Position Duties: Review owner standards and requirements for asset data and BIM deliverables; Analyze project documentation and construction drawings to identify and extract required asset information; Utilize software platforms such as Dynamo, Ideate BIMLink, or similar tools to input and manage asset data within the project Revit model; Develop and document workflow diagrams and presentation graphics using PowerPoint or comparable software applications.

The MEM Lab (Williams Hall) is recruiting participants for a 2-session study on cognition in younger adults. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 18 and 30, be able to quickly read visually presented English words, have no hearing impairments, and must not have previously participated in studies from the MEM Lab. Participants will be compensated $5 for the first session (approximately 45 minutes) and $20 for the second session (approximately 1 hour). Please note that eligibility to participate in the second session is contingent upon completing the first session and meeting task performance requirements; individuals who do not complete the first session or whose performance does not meet study criteria may not be invited to return for the second session. The Code World, No Blanket Research Lab is seeking participants for a research study to explore how generative AI is influencing software development workflows and the potential changes for integrating generative AI into software engineering education. 15. LOOKING FOR RISING SECOND AND FIFTH GRADERS TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR VIRGINIA TECH LEARNING STUDY OVER THIS SUMMER! – 1st posting
Participants needed for Virginia Tech Human Development and Family Science study (IRB # 24-1349). This research is to learn more about first and fourth graders’ literacy, math, self-regulation, executive function skills, how those skills are related to each other, as well as the role stress plays in the development of those skills so educators and/or parents can better support children’s development and literacy and math learning. Eligible individuals will participate in one 60-minute in-person video recorded session either on the Virginia Tech Blacksburg campus, your home, your child’s school, after school, or summer program. Qualifications: Parent/guardians of a rising second grader or rising fifth grader during the 2026 summer and their children, both able to speak and read English. 16. AUDITORY MODE SIGNAL DISTINGUISHABILITY STUDY – IRB # 24-765
This study aims to investigate the accuracy and reaction time in differentiating auditory signals presented through various conduction pathways (air and bone conduction). Study Overview: To measure auditory scene capacity (how many distinct sounds and spatial locations a listener can reliably enumerate) across air conduction, bone conduction, and simultaneous delivery. Participants Needed: 50 adult individuals with self-reported normal hearing. Location: Virginia Tech HIT
Duration: One session lasting approximately 45 minutes (up to 60 minutes).
What to Expect: You will wear an earbud (air conduction) and a bone conduction headset at the same time. You will hear brief sounds (pure tones and noise) that may occur simultaneously and may come from different virtual spatial locations. Using a computer interface, you will report how many distinct sounds you perceived and, in some trials, select which locations were active. Breaks will be available to prevent fatigue. Qualifications: Adults aged 18-45 with self-reported normal hearing.

The purpose of this study is to investigate how individuals with type A and B personality traits respond to constructive or destructive tasks in virtual reality (VR). Compensation: $15. Participant qualifications:
• Are 18 to 64 years old,
• Have 20/20 vision without or with contacts (glasses are not permitted during the study)
• Can walk and use both hands
• Are willing to attend an approximately 45-minute in-person experimental session in Gilbert Place
• Are proficient in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English
• Are NOT pregnant
• Do NOT have pre-existing binocular vision abnormalities or psychiatric disorders
• Have NOT recently undergone any medical procedure (including cosmetic procedures)
• Do NOT suffer from a heart condition or other serious medical condition
• Do NOT have a history of seizures or photosensitive epilepsy
• Do NOT frequently experience dizziness, vertigo, fainting, or severe motion sickness
• Do NOT have a balance disorder, are unsteady on their feet, or consider themselves at elevated risk of falling

We are seeking participants for a research study on investigating the performance of a smart work zone monitoring system that are designed to reduce the risk of collision in highway work zone (IRB-25-042). You will be asked to wear a safety helmet, respond to vibrotactile (vibration) signals from the helmet, and perform a brief memory task in the lab environment. Qualifications: Be 18 – 45 years old; Be able to walk without assistance.
