    • GRADUATE SCHOOL: The GLC will be closed to the public, including all graduate students, between June 8 – August 16, due to renovations in the Squires Student Center. All GLC swipe card access will be terminated during this period. There will be no drop-in student services during this time. For assistance students may email grads@vt.edu, call 540 231-8636 or schedule Zoom advising: request one-on-one assistantship or academic advising by using our online request form to set-up a Zoom session. 
    • GRADUATE OMBUDS: contact for appointment at gradombud@vt.edu, 540-231-9573. Services will be available in the Newman Library in Room 427 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10:00am-3:00pm. Students may schedule in-person meetings in this space.
    • GLC CAFE will be moved to the CID on Thursdays only, 3:30-5pm.
    • GLC FOOD SHARE PANTRY will be moved to the Graduate Student Lounge located on the 4th floor of Newman Library
    • NOTARY SERVICES must be arranged in advance by emailing to grads@vt.edu or to the individual notaries to set up an appointment.  Recommended location to meet the student: Newman Library.

    Come join us this summer for Writing Drop-INNs at the Inn at Virginia Tech! Come enjoy continuing momentum and productivity with fellow graduate students and work at your own pace in a quiet, supportive environment. No registration is required!  Snacks and coffee will be provided during all sessions. A limited number of monitors will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis.     Tuesday, July 7, 1-3pm, and Thursday, July 16, meet on GLC lawn
    Are you a new student interested in learning about how you will get around the VT campus, Blacksburg, and the surrounding areas? If that describes you, join us for the Bus Buddies program! The ride-along program developed by the Graduate School helps new students build confidence using Blacksburg Transit (our local bus service). Attendees will participate in an interactive presentation and guided ride-along around campus. This program will be offered twice in the summer.     Join us in our summer location in the CID lobby ! From  June 10 – August 6, the GLC Café will be held in the CID Lobby. Studio 72 will be offering Crafternoon crafting activities such as fiber arts and painting most weeks. Enjoy free coffee, tea, and cookies in the company of your grad student and Grad School colleagues. Relax, network, and load up on caffeine and/or carbs. Bring your own mug if you can.     The GPSS Fall 2026 Graduate Research Development Program (GRDP) is now taking applications! Master’s students are eligible for up to $1000 in funding and doctoral students are eligible for up to $1500 in funding. Past and future GRDP guidelines will differ.     6. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS SPECIALIST – 1st posting
    GA will support the College of Engineering Student Computer Support Office (S.W.A.T.) by: Assisting in setup and maintenance of computer systems and services. Providing guidance, training, and documentation to the undergraduate student workers; Supporting S.W.A.T, the student Security Operations Center, and the College of Engineering Dean’s office; Provide troubleshooting for a variety of technical issues.Qualifications include experience with: Writing technical documents; Mac OS, and Linux operating systems; Windows Active Directory Services or Microsoft Entra; Central Logging tools such as Splunk.; Endpoint Management services such as: Kaseya, Microsoft Intune, JAMF, BigFix.     7. GA POSITION – COSTUME SHOP – 1st posting
    The costume Graduate Assistant is responsible for building and altering costumes for theatre productions and assisting undergraduate instruction in costume construction. The assistantship is 20 hours/week and the exact days/times will be coordinated with the Costume Shop Manager. The graduate assistant is most needed from 12:00-5:30, Monday through Thursday, and 2:00 to 5:00 on Friday. Work over breaks and weekends may be required and is planned in advance.
    Graduate Assistant expectations: Assist Costume Shop Manager in instructing undergraduate students in costume construction; Build/alter costumes under the direction of Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer; Maintain clean and organized Costume Shop and Costume Storage; Complete Virginia Tech’s Environmental Health and Safety training courses
    Qualifications: Basic knowledge of machine and hand sewing; Ability to work on your feet for up to 4 hours; Basic hand, arm, and finger coordination, mobility, and dexterity; Able to lift up to and including 50 lbs.
    Preferred Requirement:
    Previous experience in clothing construction and/or related crafts

    8. INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A MUSIC & EMOTION RESEARCH STUDY – 1st posting
    You are invited to participate in a Virginia Tech research study exploring how people experience music and interact with computer-based music systems. Participants will wear small, non-invasive sensors, similar to fitness trackers, while listening to, or interacting with, music through a computer-based system. Sensors may collect measures such as heart rate, blood oxygen level, and skin conductance. Participants may also complete brief surveys about their musical and emotional experience.
    Eligibility: Must be 18 years of age or older; No prior musical training or technical experience is required. Duration: Approximately 1–2 hours. Compensation: $10 per hour, prorated if you withdraw early. Location: Seated lab or studio setting on campus, Newman Library 121 (DISIS) Participation is completely voluntary. You may choose not to participate or may stop at any time without penalty. The study involves minimal risk and does not include medical treatment or invasive procedures. Some conditions may affect eligibility, including known cardiovascular conditions that affect physiological measures, medications that substantially alter heart rate, blood oxygen, or skin conductance, adhesive intolerance, hearing limitations that prevent comfortable music listening, or unwillingness to remove jewelry or nail polish that may obstruct sensors.     9. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDY ON FOOD AND BEVERAGE CHOICES – 1st posting

    Researchers in the Virginia Tech Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise are recruiting participants for a study titled The Role of Social Influences on Food and Beverage Choices (IRB #26-615). The purpose of the study is to better understand everyday experiences and how they relate to food and beverage decision‑making. You may qualify if you are 18 years of age or older. Eligible participants will complete a single online survey which will take approximately 10–15 minutes. Participants who complete the survey may choose to enter a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card (approximately 1 in 60 chance of being selected).     10. CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS! BLACK MEN STUDENT-ATHLETE ALUMNI STUDY – 2nd posting

    This research study is focused on the experiences of Black Men Athletes (BMAs) who are alumni of Division-I (D1) Power-5 Conference (P5) Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). The goal is to better understand how Black men student-athlete alumni define and experienced anti-Black racism while participating in collegiate athletics at PWIs.     11. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A STUDY ON CYBER-ATTACK DETECTION IN AUTOMATED VEHICLES – 2nd posting
    The Mind Music and Machine Lab (Industrial and Systems Engineering department) at Virginia Tech is looking for participants for a research study on cyber-attack detection in automated vehicles. This study examines how different types of training influence people’s ability to recognize cyber-attacks and distinguish them from non-attack events while monitoring an automated vehicle. Participants will; receive training related to cyber-attack detection, participate in a simulated automated driving session, observe vehicle interface information, • Decide if events are cyber-attacks or non-attacks, Complete brief questionnaires.
    Eligibility: Are 18 years or older; Have a valid driver’s license; Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing; Fluent in English
    Time & Compensation & Location; Duration: Approximately 1 hour
