5. GRADUATE HONOR SYSTEM RECRUITING GRADUATE STUDENT PANELISTS – 1st posting
The Graduate Honor System is recruiting graduate students to serve as panelists who review evidence and determine the outcome of GHS cases. Must be a graduate student at Virginia Tech in good academic standing. Overall time commitment is 3-4 hours a semester based on the number of cases and panelist
availability. If interested, please contact the GHS Chair – Anurag Mantha (ghs@vt.edu) to set up a brief meeting to discuss the role. Once the meeting is complete, panelists are added to the GHS email list and are free to volunteer to serve on any panel based on your availability.

All graduate students are invited to “Discover New Perspectives” and apply for the Graduate Student Association’s 35th Annual Research Symposium and Exposition. Compete against other students in oral and poster presentations as well as Flash Talks and Installations to win cash prizes up to $1,000. ALL degree programs are welcome to apply before the early abstract deadline of February 1 for a chance to receive feedback and resubmit at gsa.vt.edu and clicking on “Annual Research Symposium and Exposition”. 9. JEAN B. DUERR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN STUDENTS – 3rd posting
The Jean B. Duerr Memorial Fund awards scholarships to women in an accredited college or university for the entire 2019-2020 academic year. Awards of $2,000 will be given to those applicants who best demonstrate academic achievement and community service. Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.6. Include a full official transcript with the application and postmark it by Mar 1, 2019 for scholarships awarded for the 2019/20 academic year. The Sociology Department and Women’s and Gender Studies Program have an opening for one 20 hour/week Graduate Teaching Assistantship for Spring ‘19 semester. The Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture summer program has multiple positions seeking Program Leaders from Jun 19 to Jul 21. The GSL is the heart of the Governor’s School for Agriculture (GSA). They interact on a continuing and personal basis with small numbers of GSA students, providing instruction, mentorship, and assistance to the Governor’s School students. The GSL plays a critical role in ensuring the Student Code of Conduct is adhered to at all times, and ensuring the personal safety of all Governor’s School for Agriculture students. Other roles include providing administrative and other support as directed by the Director or On-site Director. 15. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PSYCHOPHSYIOLOGICAL MONITORING STUDY – 1st posting
Volunteers are needed to participate in a psychophysiological monitoring study for aerospace applications. Participants will be asked to wear two commercially available body sensors, the Muse headset and the Empatica E4 wristband, while completing a set of cognitive tasks on the computer. Volunteers must be over the age of 18. The study session is estimated to take 1 hour to complete. A second 1 hour session may be necessary if there is an instrumentation failure. 16. NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDY ON SCHOOL READINESS IN PRESCHOOLERS – 1st posting
The iLEAP Lab in the Psychology Department at Virginia Tech is conducting a new study focusing on school readiness in preschoolers, and the predictability of different cognitive development factors in monolinguals and bilingually exposed children. The study comprises of two visits, 1 year apart. During this visit, a variety of tasks will be administered in play-like interactions, lasting about one hour and 15 minutes. Data will be collected again one year later. Seek preschool children (around 3 years old) who speak English only, but especially those who speak and hear a different language at home. We offer a $15 compensation at each session for filling out the demographic and language questionnaires. 17. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: STUDY ON REWARD & LOSS FINANCIAL DECISION-MAKING – 2nd posting
Must be between the ages of 18–55. Study involves completing an online questionnaire, for which you will be entered into a raffle to receive a $50 Amazon gift card.You might then be contacted to complete an optional second part of the study, which will be conducted on the Virginia Tech campus, during which brain activity measurements will be taken while you make financial decisions. Compensation for this second optional study is between $10 and $30 dollars. Brain activity will be measured using FNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy). FNIRS leverages optical processes to enable the measurement of real-time neural activity. The link to complete the study (i.e., the online questionnaire) can be found on our lab website (http://www.scanlab.org/projects.html), under the section Reward and Loss Learning in Anxiety. Both anxious and non-anxious subjects are being recruited.
18. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON FATIGUE AND BALANCE – 2nd posting
Volunteers are needed to participate in a research study on the effects of occupational fatigue on balance. Participation involves 2 sessions, totaling 4-5 hours. You are eligible to participate if you are 18-35 years old, have no musculoskeletal or neurological conditions that affect your balance or walking, are able to walk unassisted for 60 minutes, and are able to lift a 50-pound box.
