3. GLC WEEKLY LISTSERV SUBSCRIPTION UPDATE
The listserv subscription will be updated in late August based on fall 2019 enrollment. At that time all students who have graduated in the spring or summer will be removed from the list. If you would like to remove yourself before that time, you may unsubscribe by logging into google.com, groups, your groups, and changing your subscription status for this or any other VT-managed list.

4. GRADUATE SCHOOL SUMMER HOURS STARTING 5/20
The Graduate School’s offices in the GLC will operate with summer hours, 9:00am-4:00pm daily, with student services opening at 9:30 on Wednesdays. Immigration walk-in advising hours in the summer are MWF 1:00-4:00pm, TTh 9:00am-12:00pm. The Graduate Life Center remains accessible 24/7 to all graduate students with a valid Hokie Passport. A secure drop box is available for form submissions immediately outside GLC 120.

The Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture summer program has a position seeking a Program Leader from Jun 19 to Jul 21. Applications are being reviewed until May 31. The GSL is the heart of the Governor’s School for Agriculture (GSA). They interact on a continuing and personal basis with small numbers of GSA students, providing instruction, mentorship, and assistance to the Governor’s School students. The GSL plays a critical role in ensuring the Student Code of Conduct is adhered to at all times, and ensuring the personal safety of all Governor’s School for Agriculture students. Other roles include providing administrative and other support as directed by the Director or On-site Director. GSL’s will be selected for their academic ability, enthusiasm, potential as instructional assistants, and leadership. 8. GRAD RESEARCH STUDENT SUMMER INTERNSHIP @ VT ADULT DAY SERVICES – 3rd posting
Adult Day Services in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences is hiring a Graduate Research Assistant for the JC Gordon Graduate Research Student Summer Internship 2019. Proficiency with SPSS and ability to be onsite for work is necessary. Intern will maintain the outcomes data set, complete system exports and clean & analyze data with opportunities to explore own line of inquiry. 9. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR WORKING MEMORY STUDY – 1st posting
Participants needed for study investigating the effect of sounds on working memory. The participant will sit at computer listening to different sounds through headphones while completing a working memory task. Task will include identifying colors and EEG will be used to non-invasively record brain activity while taking the test. Session will take approximately 2 hours. Participants must be 18-35 years old, physically and mentally healthy, not color-blind and have close to 20-20 vision (using glasses or contacts), and have no significant hearing loss. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is open from 8 AM-2PM on Saturdays and 12PM-6PM on Wednesdays. They rely on volunteer participation to help staff their information table and need volunteers! 11. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED IN A SOUND LOCALIZATION LEARNING STUDY – 3rd posting
Study In a sound localization learning study for military-relevant sounds. Must be18-45 years old and have no prior experience with sound localization studies. Must pass a hearing test in the VT Auditory
Systems Laboratory. Participants will be required to perform sound localization tasks of military-type sounds in a lab setting and in a field setting (about 45 minutes away from VT campus). Approx.6-9 hours total spread over two to five days. Compensation is $10/hour for all time spent and $30 bonus for completion of all experimental sessions. This workshop’s aim is to promote conscientious discourse in classrooms through discussion of pedagogy and the introduction and use of ThoughtSwap, a web-tool created at ThirdLab at Virginia Tech. Workshop is designed for graduate students, lecturers and instructors who are interested in improving classroom interaction and might be interested in using ThoughtSwap. Attendees will receive 2 credits from NLI (Networked Learning Initiatives) professional development at Virginia Tech. Workshop also leads to potential participation in a ThoughtSwap study in Fall 2019 with compensation.
