2. STUDY BREAK WITH THE GLC FELLOWS

3. YOGA CLASS/FUNDRAISER
Thursdays, May 6 and 13, 4:00pm, In Balance Yoga Studio, downtown Bburg
Suggested donation $10/class (donations over $10 entered to win Unlimited Yoga week pass!) Money raised will be donated to Bike the US for MS as they collect funds for a Multiple Sclerosis Clinic in Charlottesville, VA. Bike the US for MS organizes yearly cross-country bike trips during the summer to fundraise and volunteer to raise awareness and money for Multiple Sclerosis clinics and research. 4. GRADUATE COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION

  • Graduate Commencement Ceremony will be on Friday, May 14, 2:30pm in Cassel Coliseum, broadcast on local channels 2, 3, and 4.
  • DVD of the ceremony may be pre-ordered online from the University Bookstore for $19.99.
  • Chappell Graduation Images will offer free portrait sittings in the library of the Alumni Center (2nd floor), 9:00am-3:00pm on Thursday, May 13.

5. YTOSS? PROGRAM: DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Moving out?  Can’t fit something in your car? Ytoss? it when you can pass
it on? Donate your gently used items (electronics, furniture, clothing, non-perishable food, laundry detergent and school supplies – at various campus collection points May 8-13, 10:30am-6:30pm. Volunteers are also needed to help run collections points and sort and store donations. If you give 4+ hours, you will receive a free Ytoss? t-shirt made of recycled fabrics.  Learn more and sign up online, or visit the YMCA Student Programs office in 312 Squires Student Center. Items will be sold during the August Move-In Ytoss? sale. Proceeds support the many community service programs run by the YMCA at Virginia Tech. 

6. GRAD ASSISTANT POSITION OPEN IN GRAD SCHOOL FOR 2010-11
The Graduate School seeks to hire a  full-time (20 hrs/wk) GA to provide administrative and program support to the graduate student services  area. Duties include assistance with program planning and coordination for graduate students, GLC space reservations, and preparation of promotional materials. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal); administrative experience; experience in working with clients in a service-oriented environment a must. Experience with event planning and familiarity with VT programs preferred. 7. NEED YOUR INPUT ABOUT GRADUATE  STUDENT HANDBOOK & PLANNER

The Graduate School will again publish its annual graduate student handbook and planner, but we would like your feedback on how to make it better. Please fill out a short survey to let us know what of the customized content is most/least useful to you and how we might improve the overall quality of the planner. In August 2500 free copies of the 2010-11 planner will be available to new and returning graduate students while supplies last.

8. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR BIOMECHANICS STUDY – 2nd posting
Participants are wanted for a VT research study investigating the effects of physical and mental demands on physiological responses. Participants perform a physical static task in the presence and absence of a mental task. Must attend four sessions: one preliminary and 3 experimental. The preliminary session will last around an hour and each experimental session will last 2-3 hours. Participants must be 18-25 years old, and will be paid $10/hour for their time. If you are interested, please email Ranjana Mehta and include your name, age, and gender in the email.

9. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT FOR INFO ANALYTICS STUDY – 2nd posting.
You are invited to participate in a study that involves an experiment to investigate how grouping and spatial understanding of information affects information analytics in a virtual environment. You will be given a consent form upon arrival. If you agree to the conditions described, you will then be given full instructions to use each environment and then complete two analysis tasks, which involve answering questions about a set of images. A background questionnaire to gauge your experience with such systems and an abstract reasoning psychometric test will also be given. Location: 1137 Knowledge Work – II, Dept of Computer Science, VT. 10. ON CAMPUS GRAD HOUSING FOR 2010-11
The waitlist for 2010-2011 graduate on-campus housing is available for next year. Graduate students interested in living on-campus in either the GLC or in Main Campbell Hall need to sign up on the waitlist online to be considered for housing. The waitlist is available at: http://www.studentprograms.vt.edu/housing/graduate.php. Eligible students will receive housing offers every 2-3 weeks via email until all of the spaces are filled.
