14. REDUCED COMP FEE OPTION FOR STUDENTS LIVING/STUDYING AWAY FROM BBURG – 3rd  posting 
Beginning Fall 2024, the university will greatly decrease the comprehensive fee for students living and studying away from the Blacksburg campus, to reduce student financial burden. For eligible students, the comprehensive fee will be reduced by 50%. For a full-time student (enrollment of 7 credit hours or more), the comprehensive fee will be reduced by $671.00, up from $300.00, and for a part-time student (enrollment between 1-6 credit hours) the fee will be reduced by $ 335.00, up from $150.00. 16. GA POSITION IN GRADUATE SCHOOL – 1st posting
The Graduate School’s Director of Assessment and Strategic Data Initiatives is seeking a Graduate Assistant (GA) for the 2024-25 Academic Year. The applicant must be a current graduate student planning to be enrolled in the Spring 2025 semester as well. The GA will provide support on data projects related to the Sloan Center for Systemic Change grant and other tasks as assigned. 17. FULBRIGHT POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS FOR U.S. CITIZENS – DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 16, 2024  

Fellowships are open to researchers in all academic disciplines and support research programs in Israel for up to 20 months (two academic years). 18. DETECTIVE FOR AN HOUR! PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR MIXED REALITY USER STUDY – 1st posting
3DI Group at Virginia Tech is investigating ways to enhance sensemaking activities such as intelligence analysis with immersive technologies. Participants will be given a case file involving a hypothetical nationwide terrorist attack. The participants will try to solve the case with 3D interaction techniques while seated, standing, or moving around in an indoor area. The entire experimental session will take about 75-90 minutes. Participant qualifications: Participants need to be proficient in English, at least 18 years old, and have normal vision with contact lenses (glasses not supported).Participation is entirely voluntary. 19. USER CENTERED EVALUATION OF SMART THERMOSTATS – 1ST posting
We are comparing the usability of different smart residential thermostat modalities using eye-tracking and Think aloud methods. During the study, participants will be asked to use the thermostat to do some tasks such as changing the thermostat temperature and modes while they wear eye tracker glasses. The study takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Participant qualifications: Over 18 years old, proficient in English, and can work with digital devices such as laptops and tablets from a regular distance without needing corrective eyeglasses. 20. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR THE MEASURE STUDY: MEASURING ENERGY ACROSS SIZES USING RECALLS – 1st posting
Are you interested in learning more about your energy needs and helping researchers better measure food intake in participants of varying body sizes? Participants are needed for the MEASURE study (IRB #22-654) seeking to understand how a participant’s weight class can affect measurements of dietary intake. Participants will complete measurements of height, weight, body composition, energy expenditure, and food intake over a period of 5-7 weeks with a total of 5 visits to campus. To be eligible, you must be over 18, have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 25 kg/m2, weigh under 600 lbs., and not be following a weight control diet. Compensation of up to $150 is available for this study. 21. ADOLESCENT/CAREGIVER DBT GROUPS – 2nd posting 
The Psychological Services Center at Virginia Tech is looking for families of adolescents to participate in biweekly DBT groups for the 2024-2025 school year. Families of adolescents that struggle with conflict are encouraged to apply. Cost is $20/week with financial aid available. 22. RESEARCH STUDY ON SUSTAINABLE DIETS – 2nd posting 
Two-part, audio recorded focus group interviews at Virginia Tech during Fall 2024. 2 hours maximum for each focus group. Share your views about what motivates your dietary choices, graphic food-based dietary guidelines, and sustainable diets. Lunch or dinner will be provided. 23. MASTERS ENDURANCE AND ULTRA-ENDURANCE ATHLETES NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY- 2nd  posting 
We are examining the relationship between physical activity and the total number of calories expended each day (IRB #21-567). This study will require 1 virtual meeting and 2 visits to the Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Virginia Tech, which will take approximately 6 hours. Participant qualifications: Highly Active Masters’ Athletes (60 years of age or older), Has an average weekly mileage of 35 miles or more, Stable body weight over the past year (±5 lb.), Free of cardiovascular, lung, metabolic, kidney disease or cancer, Has competed in a marathon or ultramarathon with the past year, Has not had any recent injuries that have affected training volume. 25. PYTHON PROGRAMMERS NEEDED FOR A STUDY – 3rd posting 
The Echolab at Virginia Tech is seeking students with basic Python programming experience for a study. Participants will join an in-person session (60-75 minutes) where they will watch two ~15-minute programming lectures, take notes using a web application, and fill out surveys. An additional survey will be sent out one week after the in-person session. For their time, participants will receive a $30 Amazon gift card. Participants don’t need to be Python experts but should have experience at least equivalent to taking an introductory class like CS 1064, Intro to Python (e.g., comfort using if-then statements, defining functions, etc.).
