2. GETTING STARTED WITH ENDNOTE

Chinese restaurants are found throughout Latin America and integrate local flavors and customs into traditional dishes creating new fusion. To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the APIDA + Center in collaboration with El Centro will feature the documentary series Chinese Restaurants and with the focus on Brazil North this month. This introductory workshop is offered twice in Fall 2024 on 24 September, 5pm–8pm and 23 October, 9am–12pm. An intermediate workshop on Data wrangling and visualization with R is scheduled for 1 October, 5pm–8pm and 30 October, 9am–12pm. The Graduate Honor System relies on trained graduate students and faculty to hear academic integrity violation cases. It takes a one-hour training to become a panelist, and after that faculty and graduate students can serve on preliminary review and review panels. Join fellow graduate students from across the country to showcase your research at William & Mary’s Graduate Research Symposium, scheduled for February 27-28, 2025 in Williamsburg. Scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and natural and computational sciences will gather to present their work, collect feedback, and connect with peers from different fields. Consider submitting an abstract for a talk or poster presentation by the November 4, 2024, deadline. If your abstract is accepted, you’ll also have the chance to submit a paper to compete for awards recognizing excellence in research in the Visiting Scholars category. 34. VT/VCCS TEACHING FELLOWS PILOT PROGRAM – 1st posting
Virginia Tech is partnering with the Virginia Community College System to offer VT graduate students an opportunity to teach as adjuncts in the Spring 2025 semester. These paid internships are available to any domestic or international student with at least 18 graduate credit hours in their discipline. Each student will be paired with an experienced mentor for the duration of the semester. Participate in our study, “Modeling Trust Between Human and Autonomous Systems in Search and Rescue Scenarios.” We’re exploring how an AI assistant can help in search and rescue missions within a Minecraft simulation. You’ll use either your intuition with a map or guidance from an AI assistant to locate targets. The study lasts 25-30 minutes, including a 5-minute demo and a 20-minute simulation. You can participate in person or remotely. Your Role: Decision-Making: Every 30 seconds, choose between following the AI or using your intuition; Search: Find as many targets as you can in each interval; Feedback: Rate your confidence in the AI and your own decisions after each interval. Researchers are seeking participants 40 years or older to participate in a study (IRB Protocol # 22-507) to learn if consuming artificial sweeteners have any impact on glucose levels in middle-aged/older adults. From 1565 to 1815, Manila galleons ships brought thousands of free and enslaved Asians to Acapulco, where they were labeled “chinos” (Chinese) in Mexico. This marked the start of a long history of racialization that grouped diverse Asian peoples into essentializing categories. Many “chinos” navigated their minoritized status to forge new intra-Asian, Afro-Asian, and Asian-Indigenous identities defining their colonial experience. This talk explores the earliest histories of Asians in the Americas and highlights the importance of their stories in today’s political and cultural context.
