4. NEW FALL COURSE: COS 5984 – GLOBAL ASPECTS OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW

International protection of patents, copyrights, and trademarks will be covered as well as policy analysis of the globalized intellectual property “system”. 5. NEW FALL COURSE: GRAD 5214, DIVERSITY FOR GLOBAL SOCIETY
Taught by Grad School Dean Karen DePauw, this course examines research and scholarship on diversity and inclusion for a global society from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Learn how your discipline is affected by global issues. This course is offered this fall on Tuesdays from 6-9pm in GLC Room C.
6. WAGE POSITION OPEN FOR WEB DEVELOPER – 1st posting
The Institute for Society, Culture and Environment (www.isce.vt.edu), is seeking a part-time Web Developer for redesign an existing Virginia Tech website and custom design of new associated site based on established requirements. 7. GRAD ASSISTANTSHIP OPENING IN IT FOR ADMIN SERVICES – 1st posting
IT for Admin Services (VPAS IT) currently has a GA position available for the 2012-2013 academic year. The position is also open to non-technical candidates. Individuals with IT experience can expect to support the department in day-to-day operations, short and long terms IT projects, and technical documentation. Responsibilities for those without IT experience will be determined based on professional experience and courses of study. This is a standard 20-hrs/wk GA position. 9. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR READING PRACTICES STUDY – 1st posting
Participants are needed for a study investigating reading practices on different media (i.e., paper, computer, iPad). 12. MORE GRAD STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WELCOME WEEK – 3rd posting
The Graduate School is looking for graduate student volunteers (graduate ambassadors) to assist with international graduate student check-in (Aug 6-17), GTA training (Aug 20-21), the Welcome Center and New Graduate Student Orientation in the GLC (Aug 20-24). Roles include: check-in and registration assistance, information and guidance to attendees; Welcome Center staffing; orientation crowd control; program set up and more. 13. CHILD PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR STORYTELLING ACTIVITY – 2nd posting
Researchers are looking for children aged 8-10 to participate in a study on motion-based creative storytelling. The child will be asked to enact and create stories using gestures and physical objects. The storytelling session will last around an hour, and will take place on the Virginia Tech campus. The session will be conducted by researchers from the VT Center for Human-Computer Interaction. Researchers are also willing to keep your child for longer should it be more convenient for you. 14. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR ANKLE INSTABILITY STUDY – 3rd posting
Healthy, young adults WITH and WITHOUT a history of ankle sprains are sought for participation in a research project on ankle sprain risk factors. The project consists of two (2) studies of which participants may complete one or both. These studies will require participants to perform single leg drop landings before and after fatigue (STUDY 1), and complete ankle stiffness and position sense evaluations under fatigued and braced conditions (STUDY 2). All procedures have been approved by the VT IRB. Participants must be 18-35 years old, active (2-3/wk), have no existing joint problems or chronic joint pain, and must not be participating in physical rehab or regularly using ankle tape or bracing. 15. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR SLIP AND FALL STUDY – 3rd posting
Participants are needed for a study assessing the effect of localized muscle fatigue on slip and fall risks. The study consists of 4 experimental sessions (each lasting approximately 2-2.5 hours). Participants will be compensated $10/hour with a $40 bonus after completing all sessions. Requirements: male or female, age 35-64, or 20-34 (overweight participants are preferred for this age group) no recent history of musculoskeletal disorders.
