2. BOLLYWOOD DANCE CLASSES THIS SUMMER

3. HAM RADIO LICENSE EXAM SESSION
Wednesday, Jul 15, 2:00pm, Space@VT Building (1901 Innovation Drive, Blacksburg)The Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Association will administer amateur radio exam in the Space@VT building located in the Corporate Research Center at 1901 Innovation Drive, Blacksburg.  All levels of license exams will be given. 5. THESIS THURSDAY

Need a quiet space to work on your thesis, dissertation, or course work? Gotta study for exams? Absolutely have to get that article out, like, yesterday? Thesis Thursday is your answer! Thesis Thursday is a weekly gathering of graduate students who want to keep accountable to a regular work time and need a guaranteed quiet place to work. Meet each Thursday just a few blocks off campus at 107 Church Street – 2nd floor of the State Farm office (entrance on Church Street). Free coffee and wi-fi provided, plus multiple spots to sit and study alone or in groups. Plus, there’s a lobby area to take a quick break or talk through a problem with a fellow grad! 8. SHARE INSPIRING/FUN SHORT VIDEO ADVICE FOR NEW GRAD STUDENTS! – still posting
What advice do you wish someone had shared with you when you first started as a grad student at Virginia Tech? What little tidbit of information made your first year better, more successful, more fun? Use your smartphone or camera to record a quick video and share your insight(s) with new graduate students; in the video, hold up or stand in front of a sign that has your first name,  academic level, and department/program (for example, <Monika,  master’s in hotel management>. Clips may be up to 20 seconds long and must be in MPEG4 format. Grad student Shabnam Kavousi invites you to contribute to an Exhibition of Cultures at the School of Architecture + Design to display the cultural diversity in the School of A+D. 10. GRADUATE PREFERRED PARKING PILOT PROGRAM –  3rd posting
VT Parking and Transportation is offering a pilot program for the 2015-16 academic year for Graduate Teaching Assistants, Graduate Research Assistants, and Graduate Assistants who are in a salaried assistantship appointment position. The program will feature specific spaces in Perry Street Lot 3, and the yearly permit will be $284. The pilot will be offered as a lottery to students who have pre-registered by August 10th. 12. SUMMER WALK-IN STATISTICAL CONSULTING BY LISA – 2nd posting
VT’s Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA) walk-in consulting will be available until Aug 14. A statistical consultant is available 1:00-3:00pm Monday through Friday when classes are in session to answer quick questions or to help with research projects requiring less than 30 minutes of assistance. For more in-depth questions or longer projects, complete the LISA request form and a team of statistical collaborators will be assigned to work with you. Note: LISA does not assist with class projects or homework. Locations are:

13. GA OPENING IN THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING FOR 2015-16 – 1st posting
The College of Engineering Dean’s Office is accepting applications for a FT (20 hrs/wk) graduate assistantship for the 2015-16 academic year. The GA will be working with the Learning Services Specialist on specific tasks and duties, including working with Distance Learning Specialist to implement strategies to develop a sense of community among off-campus students, update and manage website related to distance learning sense of community in the College of Engineering, create and maintain relationships with students off the Blacksburg campus, answer student inquiries- working in conjunction with the Learning Services Specialist. The GA will also have administrative tasks including liaising with University partners to facilitate student registration and enrollment, resolving student issues as they arise, working with VT staff on ensuring that courses are listed in timetable, and conducting market research analysis to determine trends in areas of distance learning. Must be full-time graduate student, have the ability to learn and adapt to changing responsibilities, and have professional communication skills, including public speaking and group presentations, experience with managing projects, ability to work with a team, excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail. 14. PT GENERAL MANAGER SOUGHT FOR EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CO. AT VT – 2nd posting

15. CHILD PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR EYE, GAZE & EMOTIONS TREATMENT STUDY – 1st posting
If you are a parent or legal guardian of a child/children who are having problems with all of the following: * breaking rules, arguing or fighting; * seem insensitive to punishment; * lack concern or empathy for others, contact VT researchers about a free IRB-approved research study on the VT campus for children ages 6-9. 16. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR EVALUATING WEB-BASED KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT TOOL – 1st posting
Participants are sought for helping evaluate a web-based knowledge assessment tool based on concept maps from the student user perspective. The evaluation can be done online and  will take less than 1 hour. The evaluation tasks include: learning the online materials, registering in the system, logging in the system, completing three concept map questions, requesting the report, and completing a survey. 17. CHILDREN WITH FREQUENT TANTRUMS/TEMPER OUTBURSTS SOUGHT FOR TREATMENT STUDY – 2nd posting
Children ages 8-12 are currently being enrolled for a free treatment study for frequent tantrums/temper outbursts and chronic irritability. The treatment is designed to teach children to regulate their emotions, and will be conducted in 13 weekly sessions. Families will also receive $70 for completing assessment sessions for the study. 18. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR GEOSPATIAL DATA RESEARCH STUDY – 2nd posting
5-15 participants sought for a month-long research study focusing on the question “how might we provide mobile users with a way to explore, interact with, and analyze their personal geospatial data.” Participants will be optionally given an Android device to interact with and visualize their personal location-based data and will be asked to complete one 15-minute survey per week for four weeks to give investigators insight on their use of the application. At the end of the four-week study, you will be asked to participate in a 30-minute interview and return the device. Participation is voluntary and all data collected will be confidential.
