2. WTS SOCIAL INVITATION

3. GLC CAFÉ: SUMMER EDITION

The weekly GLC café is offered every Thursday when VT is open. Summer café may be on the West Patio when the weather is nice, complete with a game of cornhole or giant Jenga. Enjoy free coffee, tea and cookies and the occasional fresh lemonade or other surprises in the company of your grad student friends and colleagues. Relax, network, meet new people, join a game of corn hole or jenga.

4. WTS CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – 1st posting
The Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Virginia Tech Student Chapter is currently organizing an event as part of the 5th International Symposium on Naturalistic Driving Research in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). WTS is currently seeking student abstracts for poster presentations for the event to be held Aug 31-Sep 1. 5. LOCAL HOSTS SOUGHT FOR SAUDI COLLEGE STUDENTS FOR JUL 29-31 – 1st posting
Graduate students are invited to apply to host Saudi college students who will visit Virginia Tech for a week of programs related to community engagement and social entrepreneurship.  Students spend 1 week in DC, 1 week on campus, and 1 week back in DC before returning home to Saudi Arabia.  Hosts are only sought for the weekend of July 29-31, the rest of the week the Saudi students will stay on campus. 7. GRANT APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED IN CTR FOR PEACE STUDIES AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION – 2nd posting
The CPSVP will provide support for graduate students whose thesis or dissertation research applies to issues of violence, with funded activities leading to the completion of a thesis or dissertation. Recipients are required to participate in various university-sponsored research conferences and professional conferences appropriate for their field of study. Proposals must address thematic research areas related to the study and prevention of violence, with special interest in the research of the causes, consequences, treatment, management, and/or prevention of violence. Research can focus on issues of violence at the individual, family, organizational, community, institutional, or societal level. Three awards available ranging $1,000-$1,500. Proposals are welcome from students in all VT departments, centers, and programs. Funded students must be full-time graduate students in good standing, and the research/scholarship is expected to be grounded in the social sciences, humanities, or arts. 8. VT CREW TEAM SEEKING HEAD COACH  – 2nd posting
The VT Crew Team is a student organization based in Blacksburg, VA that has been operating for 23 years. After great success this spring and the promise for future excellence next year, the crew is looking for coaches to expand its rapidly growing program. Rowers at VT have experience ranging from novice to 8+ years. 9. SCIENCE MUSEUM SEEKS GRAD STUDENT PRESENTERS – 3rd posting
The Science Museum of Western Virginia (SMWV) in downtown Roanoke is looking for presenters for summer camps focused on STEM experiences to help open campers’ eyes to the wide number of fields and expertise contained under the STEM umbrella. Ideally, speakers should cover a 45-60-minute long session talking about their work and lead the campers in a hands-on activity related to their field. 10. FULL-TIME GA POSITION IN GRAD SCHOOL FOR 2016-17 – 2nd posting
The Graduate School Student Services office is looking for a full-time graduate assistant (GA) to provide administrative and program-specific support for student services in the GLC. Duties include planning and executing orientation and educational programs, coordinating activities, managing communication, creating promotional materials, and assisting with other administrative duties as assigned. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work independently as well as in a team are a must. Experience with program planning and execution and familiarity with GLC and VT services is preferred. Position to start on Aug 1. 11. GTA OPENINGS IN ENGLISH DEPARTMENT – 2nd posting
The Department of English is seeking applications for GTAs for 2016-17 to teach in the First-Year Writing Program. Applicants must have completed at least 18 hours of graduate work in English or a related discipline to qualify. Appointed students must enroll in 12 hrs of graduate credit per semester, 3 of which should be practicum credits; must also participate in English department’s GTA mentoring program, which includes required activities before the semester begins. Appointed students may be required to take ENGL 5004, Composition Theory and Practice, during fall semester 2016. 13. SURVEY FOR VT TEACHERS ON WORKING WITH STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES – 2nd posting
Current and past Virginia Tech GTAs and other campus educators are sought to complete a survey to determine level of confidence in working with students with disabilities and to gauge interest and preferences for new educational materials on this topic.
