2. PICK YOUR OWN BLUEBERRIES!

Meet with grad students in the GLC lobby and travel to Three Birds Berry Farm in Blacksburg to pick some blueberries. Bring cash to pay for your pickings (see prices at http://www.3birdsberryfarm.com/about/)! Some of the blueberries will be made into a cobbler for Thursday’s GLC cafe. Space is limited, and we will accommodate registrants on a first-come first served basis.

3. HEALTHY RESPONSES TO CONFLICT AND STRESS

Take advantage of having some discretionary time in the summer and learn how to cope with conflict and stress in healthy ways – these skills may come in handy in the fall! Conflict and stress are experienced within all realms of our lives. 4. GLC CAFÉ: HOMEMADE BLUEBERRY COBBLER WITH ICE CREAM

5. CLAYTOR LAKE GRAD POTLUCK PICNIC

Want to get out of Blacksburg for a bit, but not interested in driving too far? Get down to Claytor Lake State Park <http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/claytor-lake>  for a potluck picnic with your fellow graduate students and their families. The Grad School rented a picnic shelter; you bring the food! Meet some new faces, make some new friends, and enjoy a nice day on the lake. Everyone is asked to bring 1 or 2 dishes to share. Bring games, swimwear, sports equipment, etc. too. Families are welcome! 7. ANTI-BULLYING FOCUS GROUP INVITATION – 1st posting
The Graduate School Anti-Bullying Task Force would like to learn more about your experiences as a graduate student with bullying, either as the target of bullying or as one who has observed others being bullied, to better understand the prevalence of bullying among graduate students (both faculty-student and student-student bullying) and students’ willingness to report such behaviors. Participate in one of two focus groups to share your experience in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 12, in Room 323, Bishop-Favrao Hall. Participation is voluntary and may be discontinued at any time. Information collected during the session will be documented anonymously. Your input will help in the design of new reporting mechanisms and training to help reduce bullying at Virginia Tech and beyond. The sessions will be led by Dr. Rajesh Bagchi (rbagchi@vt.edu) and Dr. Annie Pearce (apearce@vt.edu) of the Anti-Bullying Task Force. 

8. CTR FOR PEACE STUDIES AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – 1st posting
The CPSVP provides support for grad students whose thesis or dissertation research applies to issues of violence. Recipients are required to participate in various university-sponsored research conferences and professional conferences. Proposed research should focus on the causes, consequences, treatment, management, and/or prevention of violence, and may address any aspect of inter-personal, institutional, group, collective, cultural, or structural violence.Three awards of $1,000-1,500 will be given. Must be full-time graduate student in good standing, with research grounded in the social sciences, humanities, or arts. Applications must include (a) cover sheet, (b) 200-word abstract about research project in language suitable for general public, (c) project narrative of up to four pages, (d) itemized budget and justification, and (e) a letter of support from the student’s main academic advisor. Applications are to be prepared using 1-inch margins and Arial 11 font. Submit an e-copy of the complete application and signed coversheet, and itemized budget to Ms. Amy Splitt at amys@vt.edu by 5:00 p.m. on Jul 15, 2017. 9. FULBRIGHT COMPETITION NOW OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2018-19 – 3rd posting
The US Student Fulbright competition is now open for applications for the 2018-2019 academic year. Grants are available in approximately 140 countries for graduate degree programs, independent study/research, or English teaching assistantships. Awards cover round-trip travel to the host country, room, board and incidental costs, and accident and sickness insurance, with some programs offering additional benefits. 10. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A RUNNING STUDY – 2nd posting
The Granata lab is recruiting subjects for a study looking at load symmetry during running. This study requires two visits – a 2 mile run visit and a 4 mile run visit. 11. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR AUGMENTED REALITY STUDY – 3rd posting
The 3DI group is seeking volunteers to participate in a research study with  augmented reality (AR) technologies. The team is investigating the best ways to interact with AR, and this study compares various methods of interaction with virtual data and information. The study will make use of state-of-the-art AR technologies such as the Microsoft Hololens. The project is supervised by Dr. Doug Bowman in Computer Science. 12. VOLUNTEER AT THE BBURG FARMER’S MARKET – 3rd posting
Volunteers are needed at the Blacksburg Farmer’s Market to help run the information booth on market days during the summer. The market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays and shifts are three hours each. Wednesday, the market is open 12:00 to 6:00 pm and the shifts are 12:00 to 3:00 pm and 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Saturday, the market is open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and the shifts are 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Farmer’s Market is near Squires and the GLC.
