The student blog RE: Reflections and Explorations, offered through the VT Institute for Policy and Governance, is a great vehicle to share research ideas and theories with a broader audience. All VT grad students are eligible to offer essays that address a policy, politics or governance issue or concern. The Graduate Honor System is recruiting graduate students to serve as panelists who review evidence and determine the outcome of GHS cases. The Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture summer program has multiple positions seeking Program Leaders from Jun 19 to Jul 21. The GSL is the heart of the Governor’s School for Agriculture (GSA). 21. AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ADHD STUDY – 1st posting
Participants needed to take part in confidential interview for a study exploring health behavior and health care utilization practices of African American adults who experienced adolescent symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, or a behavioral disorder. Participants receive a $10 gift card for their participation. Eligible participants will: 1) Identify as African American or Black; 2) are 18 years of age or older 3) experienced first symptoms of ADHD or a behavioral disorder beginning before the age of 12. 22. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PSYCHOPHSYIOLOGICAL MONITORING STUDY – 2nd posting
Volunteers are needed to participate in a psychophysiological monitoring study for aerospace applications. Participants will be asked to wear two commercially available body sensors, the Muse headset and the Empatica E4 wristband, while completing a set of cognitive tasks on the computer. Volunteers must be over the age of 18. The study session is estimated to take 1 hour to complete. A second 1 hour session may be necessary if there is an instrumentation failure. 23. NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR STUDY ON SCHOOL READINESS IN PRESCHOOLERS – 2nd posting
The iLEAP Lab in the Psychology Department at Virginia Tech is conducting a new study focusing on school readiness in preschoolers, and the predictability of different cognitive development factors in monolinguals and bilingually exposed children. The study comprises of two visits, 1 year apart. During this visit, a variety of tasks will be administered in play-like interactions, lasting about one hour and 15 minutes. Data will be collected again one year later. Seek preschool children (around 3 years old) who speak English only, but especially those who speak and hear a different language at home. We offer a $15 compensation at each session for filling out the demographic and language questionnaires. 24. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: STUDY ON REWARD & LOSS FINANCIAL DECISION-MAKING – 3rd posting
Must be between the ages of 18–55. Study involves completing an online questionnaire, for which you will be entered into a raffle to receive a $50 Amazon gift card.You might then be contacted to complete an optional second part of the study, which will be conducted on the Virginia Tech campus, during which brain activity measurements will be taken while you make financial decisions. Compensation for this second optional study is between $10 and $30 dollars. Brain activity will be measured using FNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy). FNIRS leverages optical processes to enable the measurement of real-time neural activity. Both anxious and non-anxious subjects are being recruited.

25. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON FATIGUE AND BALANCE – 3rd posting
Volunteers are needed to participate in a research study on the effects of occupational fatigue on balance. Participation involves 2 sessions, totaling 4-5 hours. You are eligible to participate if you are 18-35 years old, have no musculoskeletal or neurological conditions that affect your balance or walking, are able to walk unassisted for 60 minutes, and are able to lift a 50-pound box.
