13. CHILDCARE AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION SURVEY – 1st posting
Virginia Tech is deeply committed to finding new ways to support the university community and its childcare and early childhood education needs. Please share your feedback in a new childcare needs survey at the provided in an email sent to you. Input will be used to expand analysis and decision-making around childcare for employees and graduate students. The survey will also build upon the dedicated work of the university’s childcare working group made up of representatives from across the university. VT is partnering with KinderCare, a nationally-recognized childcare provider to conduct the survey. The first Virginia Tech Latinx Symposium will take place on Friday, Oct 25 in the Squires Student Center Old Dominion Ballroom. Building on issues 1.1 and 2.1, Community Change’s third and fourth issues seek to continue unpacking the notion of ‘community change’—its complexities and challenges in recent decades of intensified economic, environmental, and political instabilities. 20. VMCVM’S TRUNK OR TREAT LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS – 2nd posting
We are hosting the second annual VMCVM will hold its second annual Trunk or Treat on Oct 30. This event is open to the public, from 5:00 to 7:00pm in the Vet Med parking lot (205 Duck Pond Drive) and provides a safe and fun place for local families and children to trick or treat. VT organizations and clubs are needed to host a trunk to hand out candy to the trick or treating children. Each club or organization may decorate their trunk and a gift card will go to the best decorated car! Each organization must provide their own candy to hand out but there will be extra candy to replenish as needed. Parking services will waive tickets in the Vet Med parking lot starting at 4:30pm, so cars with a current parking pass may park there early to get set up. 24. EDCI 5954: INFORMAL LEARNING IN NORTHERN ENGLAND – 3rd posting
Coast to Coast: Cultural Curriculum, Creative Technologies, Common People, Coal and Curries
(3 credit hours) Winter Session 2019-20 | January 1-18, 2020. This is a unique, intense two-week study abroad experience in the Northern England (Lancashire and Yorkshire) and London. Explore places that you may never otherwise learn about or see on a typical visit to England, while focusing on learning about, as well as creatively documenting, the pedagogy of place. Course designed to take students to cities and towns that represent the industrial heartland of Northern England. Focus of course is how national and local narratives on industrialization, politics, radicalism, race, immigration, gender, class, and sexuality from Northern England are represented within the cultural curriculum. The EchoLab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals for an experimental study that involves participating in an instant messenger group chat to collaborate on a given task. The goal of the study is to observe user habits/patterns in a group chat conversation. Participants must be 18 years and older; active users of any Instant Messenger (IM) App such as Message/Slack/WhatsApp, etc., able to collaborate on the group chat, fill out a survey, and answer post-task interview in English. Duration is approximately 60 minutes. This is a remote study and can be performed from home/library/any other location where the use of smartphones and/or personal computers is permitted.
