The Graduate Honor System is recruiting graduate students to serve as panelists who review the evidence and determine the outcome of GHS cases. To be eligible, you need to be a graduate student in good academic standing. All graduate students are eligible regardless of how long they have been at VT. The Virginia Tech Rowing Team is looking to hire graduate level fitness coaches to its coaching staff. The position is paid, and a part-time faculty position. 29. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR FOOT AND ANKLE BIOMECHANICS STUDY – 1st posting
The Granata Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for participants in a biomechanics study. This study aims to determine how different foot postures (high, normal, and low arches) are affected by ankle braces during walking, running, and cutting. Participation consists of one visit that lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. Must be 18-30, have had no injury in the past 6 months that limited physical activity for more than 2 days, have no history of lower extremity surgery, and will be comfortable completing the athletic tasks. 30. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR EDAMAME ACCEPTABILITY STUDY – 1st posting
The VT Sensory Evaluation Lab is recruiting volunteers (18+ years old) to participate in a sensory study of edamame (vegetable soybeans). Will be asked to view, smell and taste edamame samples, describe their impressions, and answer a survey. If you have allergies to soy products or are pregnant you are asked to refrain from participating. There is no compensation, but all participants are eligible to enjoy a nice snack after completing the sensory test. Study will be on Feb 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27, Wednesdays (10:00am-5:00pm) and Thursdays (10:00am-1:00pm, or until reaching 90 participants), in the VT Sensory Evaluation Lab in HABB1 room 205 (1230 Washington St SW). 31. CIGARETTE SMOKERS NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY IN ROANOKE – 1st posting
Volunteers 21-65 needed for a 10-session confidential research study involving surveys about smoking habits and preferences. Participation includes computerized purchasing tasks and use of commercially available cigarettes. Compensation of $40-$510 provided based on the extent of participation. 32. RECRUITING PARTICIPANTS FOR STUDY WITH AUGMENTED REALITY (AR) TECHNOLOGY – 2nd posting
This study compares various methods of interaction with virtual content to complete collaborative tasks. It will make use of state-of-the-art AR technologies such as Microsoft Hololens. Participants will be asked to complete interaction tasks such as object selection, manipulation in AR And will be asked for their comments about these innovative interaction techniques. The entire experimental session will take about 60 minutes. We are seeking participants that are: 1)18 years and older. 2)Have normal vision (glasses and contact lenses are fine). 3) Can do the user study which involves AR device, fill out a survey, and answer post-study interview in English. Are you or someone you know at risk for Type 2 Diabetes, or have a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis? The Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors at the Fralin Biomedical Research Center is seeking participants for a 6-month weight loss research program. Participants will receive dietary and lifestyle coaching with a trained interventionist to help develop lifelong healthy eating and activity habits. Participants will also receive regular assessment of blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol. The Neural Dynamics and Neural Engineering Lab (ICTAS II) is seeking participants for a neuroscience research study about the neural dynamics associated with learning finger-tapping tasks and the effects of sleep on learning these tasks. Must be 18 years+ with no history of neurological or sleep disorders. During this task, participants will perform a repetitive finger-tapping sequence with their thumb and fingers while wearing a glove. Afterwards, participants will take a nap or watch a nature documentary, or sleep overnight in the lab. Electrooculography (EOG) and electromyography (EMG) will be recorded as a step-in quantifying quality of learning and sleep staging. Electroencephalography (EEG) will be utilized to record the task and sleep. Up to 5 (afternoon session) or 10 (overnight session) SONA credits will be provided.
