The Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS) is excited to present Dr. Maureen Short for the first of our speaker series. Dr. Maureen Short is a Human Factors Expert for General Motors. She graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as an Engineer Officer in the United States Army. 5. ENDEAVORING FOR A BETTER WORLD

Association for India’s Development (AID) Blacksburg is sponsoring this event – “Endeavoring for a Better World” by Mr. Partha Dey, a veteran grassroots AID worker. He will be sharing his experiences of working with the communities in the Sunderbans and Murshidabad, West Bengal, India on the impact of climate change and building sustainable livelihoods. The event will be accompanied by an artisan crafted Indian handicrafts sale, all proceeds of which will be added to the chapter donations. Association for India’s Development (AID) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization that supports grass roots projects in India while also promoting sustainable, equitable and just development. The AID Blacksburg chapter comprises mostly graduate student volunteers at Virginia Tech who identify with the AID causes. 6. HUME CENTER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CYBER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2021/22 – 1st posting
The Hume Center for National Security and Technology is now accepting applications for the DoD Cyber Scholarship Program for the 2021-2022 academic year. Students selected as DoD Cyber Scholars will receive full cost of tuition, books, required fees, laptop, and stipend to cover room and board. Selected students will also be adjudicated for a security clearance.  Stipend level is $30,000 for graduate (Master’s/PhD) students. Disabled students may receive additional allowances. 10. RESEARCH AND GRADUATE STUDIES GRADUATE ASSISTANT POSITIONS -1st posting
The Department of Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) in the College of Engineering is seeking 3 full-time graduate assistants for Spring 2021. This positions are 20 hrs. week with a pay scale of 13. The responsibility of the graduate assistants is to provide support for the activities and initiatives of the RGS office. The positions will focus on assisting with the development, implementation and administrative support of the office’s duties to grow research and graduate studies programs. The positions include collecting data for specific tasks, and special events and supporting the office’s portfolio of Canvas modules and co-curricular activities. 11. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON THE USE OF HEAD-WORN AR FOR HISTORICAL TOURS – 1st posting
We are looking for participants for our study on head-worn augmented reality for historical tours. The study takes place in two sessions, a 40-minute session at Solitude, located near the Duck Pond, and a 20-minute interview session held over Zoom. Additionally, participants will fill out online questionnaires before and after the session at Solitude. You may qualify for this research if you are at least 18 years old, have normal corrected (glasses and/or contacts) or uncorrected vision, and have strong English skills. If you’re interested in more information about being a participant or scheduling a study session, please contact Nicolas Gutkowski at nickjg98@vt.edu. This study has been approved, as required, by the Institutional Review Board of Virginia Tech – IRB# 20-877.

12. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR VIDEO CONFERENCE STUDY – 2nd posting
The echolab is inviting you to participate in this video conference study to help us understand self-monitoring better. The study will take place in the Usability Lab 133 (EFH) (McBryde Hall) and will take approximately 60 minutes. Participants will be provided written or verbal instructions for the experiment and familiarized with the lab and the equipment they will be using. They will to someone over a video call while sitting in the designated setting and will answer a few questions and have a conversation with the other user. After all the tasks are completed, participants will complete a questionnaire form. The entire session will be audio and video recorded. Participants must be 18 years or older and speak English. Participants will receive a $12 electronic gift card at the end of the study. Contact Md Tahsin Tausif at tausiftt52@vt.edu if interested. This experiment has been approved by the Virginia Tech Institutional Review Board, 20-531‌. 

13. HEALTHY DOGS NEEDED FOR HEART STUDY – 3rd posting
The Veterinary Clinical Research Office if seeking healthy dogs to compare to a clinical population of dogs affected by mitral valve disease. To enroll, dogs must be 1-5 years old, weigh 3-25 kg/ 7-55 lbs, and be free of systemic disease, such as diabetes, Cushing’s, kidney disease and heart disease. Dogs will undergo a standard cardiac examination, including echocardiography, at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Blacksburg, VA. Then we will obtain some three-dimensional images of the mitral valve of your dog’s heart. These procedures are non-invasive, but may require a small area of fur on your dog’s chest to be shaved. Appointments should take less than an hour. The visit and echocardiographic examination are free of charge.
