2. GRADUATE STUDENT AND OUTSTANDING MENTOR AWARDS – 1st posting
The Graduate School is seeking nominations for outstanding theses and dissertations; excellence in teaching or service; graduate student of the year; and outstanding interdisciplinary students. These nominations are due by January 20, 2023. In addition to these nominations, each college defines its own nomination criteria and selection process for identifying one outstanding master’s and doctoral student and outstanding mentor per college. Students can contact their department about the college specific awards. All winners will be recognized by the Graduate School during Graduate Education Week 2023, March 27-31. The Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society (Bouchet Society) recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promote a diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate. The Bouchet Society seeks to develop a network of preeminent scholars who serve as examples of the five pillars, scholarship, leadership, character, service, and advocacy for students and postdoctoral researchers who have been traditionally underrepresented in the academy. 7. GRADUATE PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT – 1st posting
The Asian Cultural Engagement Center (ACEC) is seeking a graduate student to work 20 hours a week for a Graduate Assistantship. This includes tuition remission and a stipend. This job requires working closely with the Director of the ACEC to do the following: Event Planning and Assessment, Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications, Student Engagement and Support Services and Diversity Special Projects among others. 10. GA POSITION SUMMER CAMPS AND PROGRAMS – 2nd posting
The GA working in this position will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Outreach and Student Engagement to help run summer programs in June and July of 2023. This includes five residential, science-based camps for middle school and high school students and one professional development workshop for high school science teachers. Duties include helping to:  review and process applications for all summer programs, recruit and select camp counselors, design/manage fun activities for campers, schedule camp activities, assign dorm rooms, answer email, collect and manage forms for all camp and workshop personnel, help manage logistics and supplies during events The GA may work remotely with periodic (at least weekly) in-person meetings with the Assistant Dean. 13. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR CLEAT PERFORMANCE AND PLANTAR LOADING – 2nd posting
The Granata Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for participants in a research study (protocol IRB# 22-664). This research study aims to determine how performance and pressure forces of the foot are impacted by cleat type and sex assigned at birth. Participation involves one visit that will last approximately 75 minutes. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 18-30, wear a shoe size of men’s 7-12 (women’s 8.5-13.5), currently plays a cleated sport or has played a cleat sport in the last 3 years, have not had any lower extremity injuries in the last six months that limited physical activity for more than two days, and are not pregnant. 14. VOLUNTEER TO REVIEW GRADUATE RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PROPOSALS – 2nd posting
Reviewers from all disciplines are welcome! Must be a graduate student engaged in research at Virginia Tech, and not a current GRDP applicant. Each proposal consists of an “extended abstract” describing the context, motivation, methods and impacts of an applicants’ research, in addition to a budget and timeline for completion of proposed work. Minimum time commitment is 1.5 hours from January 30-March 10, 2023 – including half hour-long training session and review of at least two proposals. Volunteers may be assigned to review proposals within their general area of expertise, or entirely outside of it. All work can be done remotely. 15. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR WALKING PREDICTION STUDY – 3rd  posting
Assistive Robotics Laboratory at Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking healthy male/females who can walk more than 2.5 hours a day (with breaks). The goal of the research project is to predict the walking patterns based on the sensor readings. We need good amount of walking data in order to do so. 16. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR FMRI DATA SONIFICATION STUDY – 3rd posting
Volunteers needed for the Mind Music Machine Lab’s study in evaluating music samples that were created through the sonification of fMRI data. This is a Virginia Tech research study (IRB Number: 21-839). The objective of this study is to evaluate usability and user perception on the sonification of fMRI data. During the study, you will be asked to rate different sonification samples based on subjective measures and determine what neurological state each sample represents.
