- GRADUATE SCHOOL: In-person advising, drop-off or pick-up of documents and materials, and a space to study and take a break! Visit SHIP (120 GLC),summer walk-in hours starting June 1st will be held on Monday and Thursday 9:00-4:00pm. The Graduate School offices will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the summer. Staff will be available by phone 540 231-8636 or email grads@vt.edu. If you prefer Zoom advising: request one-on-one assistantship or academic advising by using our online request form to set-up a Zoom session.
- CAREER ADVISING: schedule career advising appointment via https://career.vt.edu/job-search/Handshake.html ; NOTE: There will be no GLC drop-ins for summer.
- COOK COUNSELING: No Drop-in hours at GLC during the summer. Services are available over the summer, and new clients are being accepted. Students must be in Blacksburg or the state of Virginia. A health fee may apply. Please call 540-231-6557 with questions or to schedule. **Please note Cook Counseling’s main office is moving to Gilbert Place, 220 Gilbert Street, suite 2400 and this will be the primary location for services this summer.

6. STS SEMINAR COURSE: COMMUNICATING ACADEMIC IDEAS TO NON-ACADEMIC AUDIENCES – 2nd posting
STS-5424/CRN 91255, “Communicating Academic Ideas to Non-Academic Audiences,” will be offered in fall 2023. The course explores its topic in the context of public communications, online media, publishing, and promotional campaigns. Light on reading but heavy on brainstorming, the course will focus on storytelling and script-writing for YouTube videos or other media as modes of communication. Students will be encouraged to develop popular communications of their own work and plan possible ways of building a media platform around it. In parallel, students will work in groups to create videos around the core theme of housing crises on the local, national, and global level, with special attention to the New River Valley and surrounding areas. Videos created will be shown at an event at the end of Spring 2024 focused on creating inclusive dialogue around local housing issues. The College of Science Dean’s Office is seeking applications from graduate students interested in an academic year graduate assistantship. Funded by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning as part of the Bridge Experience Program, this position will work with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs to collect information on internship opportunities relevant for College of Science undergraduate students.
