1. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS DEEP DIVE
Monday, January 8 – Thursday, January 11, 10am-3pm, Virtual
Registration for the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Deep Dive workshop is now open! During this 4-day workshop participants will become familiar with the major required steps of this methodology, practice relevant skills, and consider the many decisions necessary for a successful comprehensive review and synthesis. 3. MENTORING UNDERGRADUATE WORKSHOPS                                                                                    
Thursday, January 11, 8:30am-12:30am, 2124 Gilbert Place
This workshop will engage participants through interactive sessions on recognizing their mentoring approach, exploring what a mentor is and is not, what a mentor does, and guidelines and best practices for mentoring undergraduate students in research. The principles presented will be applicable broadly to all areas of research. Participants will be required to prepare for the workshop by reading introductory documents and case studies to be posted on a dedicated Canvas site; preparation time should not exceed two hours. This workshop is open to faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students. Participants are eligible to receive PDN credit. Program capacity is 50, accepted on a first come, first served basis. 6. RESEARCH TOOLS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS WORKSHOP SERIES – 1st posting
There’s a lot to learn in graduate school, and the library can help! This spring, the library will offer a series of free workshops (offered live via Zoom) to help you develop the research skills you need to succeed in graduate school. Learn about literature reviews and database searching, citation management, data management, developing your scholarly presence, and more. 7. RESEARCH SKILLS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS – 1st posting
Take your research to the next level! GRAD 5124 (Research Skills for Graduate Students) is an asynchronous, one-credit, fully-online course offered by the University Libraries in Spring 2024. Students will develop skills that will prepare them for research in graduate school and beyond. Two discipline-specific sections are offered, so students should be sure to sign up in HokieSPA for the one that relates to their subject area. 9. NEW RIVER SYMPOSIUM – 2nd posting
2024 Symposium Theme:“Rivers³: Reconnect, Restore, Recreate”. Organized and presented by the New River Conservancy and a diverse array of partners, the biennial New River Symposium celebrates the ecological, economic, and cultural values of the New River, brings together the region’s diverse constituents, and provides a forum for partnership, research, and policy development. We invite you to join the roster of prestigious presenters for this event. The 2024 Symposium will be held April 11th and 12th on the Radford University campus.  We invite abstracts for presentations (15-20 minutes) or posters for the poster session.  Deadline for proposal submissions is February 16, 2024. 10.  CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SPRING SEMESTER WORKSHOPS & DROP-IN HOURS – 2nd posting

12. CAMPUS PEACE CORPS RECRUITER – 1st posting
Virginia Tech’s Center for International Research, Education, and Development is seeking a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer to serve as the part-time Campus Peace Corps Recruiter (20 hours/week). The recruiter will be the main point of contact for Virginia Tech students interested in joining the Peace Corps. Among the tasks are holding regular office hours, holding information sessions, and assisting students applying to Peace Corps.  MUST be a former Peace Corps Volunteer, no exceptions. The position is open until filled. The job will run through Spring Semester, 2024 with the possibility of continuation. Compensation is tuition remission and a GA stipend. 13. GA POSITION IN SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTION – 1st posting

14. SUMMER GA POSITION FOR SCIENCE OUTREACH – 1st posting
The GA will work closely with the AD for Outreach to administer programs held during June and July of 2024. The programs include five residential camps for middle and high school students and one workshop for high school science teachers. Duties include: training to work with youth, helping to recruit, select, write workflows and  train camp counselors, Reserving classrooms and operating technology, serving as backup/extra camp counselor, helping deal with emergencies if they occur, e.g., a sick camper, helping with logistics of activities across campus, including taking supplies to/from different buildings, troubleshooting after each program to make improvements. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher, strong experience working with youth, strong verbal communication, professional, responsible, organized, attention to detail, ability to think through potential problems ahead of time and plan accordingly, ability to prioritize tasks and successfully manage multiple assignments, valid driver’s license and safe driving record, willing to drive self and campers as needed, able to pass background checks.  Position will run May 10-August 9. 15. 2024 NMFS-SEA GRANT FELLOWSHIP – DEADLINE: JANUARY 25, 2024 BEFORE 5PM EST
Population and Ecosystem Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics
The National Sea Grant College Program (Sea Grant) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) support a Ph.D. graduate fellowship in two specific areas.
Population and Ecosystem Dynamics: Sea Grant anticipates funding at least four new Ph.D. fellowships in 2024 to students who are interested in careers related to marine ecosystem and population dynamics, with a focus on modeling and managing systems of living marine resources. 
Marine Resource Economics: Sea Grant anticipates funding one new Ph.D. fellowship in 2024 to students who are interested in careers related to the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing the economics of the conservation and management of living marine resources.

16. VIRGINIA SPACE GRANT CONSORTIUM GRADUATE RESEARCH STEM FELLOWSHIPS – DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 9, 2024.
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) is accepting applications for its Graduate Research STEM Fellowship program. A major goal of VSGC is to help produce the engineers and scientists of the future and to promote diversity in the STEM workforce. The consortium provides fellowships of $6,000 in add-on support to graduate students to supplement and enhance basic research support. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, be enrolled full-time in a program of study in STEM, have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance, and are not graduating sooner than May 2025. 17. 2025 KNAUSS MARINE POLICY FELLOWSHIP – DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 15, 2024 BEFORE 5PM EST
The 2025 John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship is sponsored by NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program (NSGCP). Applicants must have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources Fellows are matched with hosts in the legislative and executive branches of government located in the Washington, D.C. area. All eligible applicants enrolled at a Virginia institution planning to apply are strongly encouraged to contact Virginia Sea Grant prior to submitting an application.  . FUNDING: $93,900 in federal funding, includes  $71,400 stipend, $5,000 for allowable expenses, $2,500 for placement process travel, and up to $15,000 for host office-related travel. 18. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON STRESS AND COGNITION – 2nd posting
Do you help care for an older adult in your life? If so, you may qualify for the Caregiver Stress and Cognition Study (IRB # 23-789). What it entails: a single screening phone call & a 60-90 minute in-person session (at-home and in-lab locations offered). Participants will be asked to answer surveys, undergo a brief 10-minute interview about their responses, and complete a computerized cognitive task while undergoing physiological measurements (i.e., blood pressure, pulse, and fNIRS readings. fNIRS is a lightweight, non-invasive device that is worn like a headband; both blood pressure and pulse recordings are measured by devices placed on the bicep and forearm of participants.). Participant must be currently caregiving for an older adult (65 years+) in some capacity (i.e., helping with physical, mental, or emotional needs).  Participant must not be currently diagnosed with a major cardiovascular or cognitive condition (Hypertension/High Blood Pressure is accepted).  Compensation $30 Mastercard Gift Card If you have any questions or would like to participate, please reach out to the CAATS Lab at caatslab@gmail.com or call 540-231-9417.
