2. GLC CAFÉ: SUMMER EDITION — SET A NEW GLC GIANT JENGA RECORD!  Thursday, Jun 16, 3:30-5:00pm, GLC Reading Room or West Patio (Bookstore side behind the shrubs)
The weekly GLC café is offered every Thursday when VT is open. Summer café may be on the West Patio when the weather is nice, complete with a game of cornhole or giant Jenga. Enjoy free coffee, tea and cookies and the occasional fresh lemonade or other surprises in the company of your grad student friends and colleagues. Relax, network, meet new people. The GLC baseline record for Giant Jenga was set at 38 levels last week. Help break the record and come by to play some Giant Jenga!

3. TIE-DYE AND TOSTITOES – registration requested

Take an afternoon break, enjoy some chips and salsa, and create a tie-dye masterpiece.  Tie-dye materials will be provided, but please bring your own shirt or other garment. 5. LCI SEEKS PEER COLLABORATORS – 2nd posting
The VT Language and Culture Institute (LCI) is seeking peer collaborators to interact with Fellows from the Mandela Washington Fellowship. Fellows are ages 25-35 and the purpose of the peer collaborator is to provide each Fellow with the opportunity to get to know about the life of someone in the U.S. who is close to their age, and to share experiences. The only requirement is to commit to meet at least once to have a conversation with one or more of the Fellows. Then, you can meet again if you like, or attend one or more of the social events throughout the summer. The ideal is to meet with the partner once weekly during the 6 weeks the Fellows are here, but that doesn’t always work with schedules. 6. WTS CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – 3rd posting
The Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Virginia Tech Student Chapter is currently organizing an event as part of the 5th International Symposium on Naturalistic Driving Research in conjunction with the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). WTS is currently seeking student abstracts for poster presentations for the event to be held Aug 31-Sep 1. 7. LOCAL HOSTS SOUGHT FOR SAUDI COLLEGE STUDENTS FOR JUL 29-31 – 3rd posting
Graduate students are invited to apply to host Saudi college students who will visit Virginia Tech for a week of programs related to community engagement and social entrepreneurship.  Students spend 1 week in DC, 1 week on campus, and 1 week back in DC before returning home to Saudi Arabia.  Hosts are only sought for the weekend of July 29-31, the rest of the week the Saudi students will stay on campus. The Apex Systems Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is seeking applications for a graduate assistant for 2016-17 academic year. The GA maintains, monitors, and assists with programming for the Innovate Living Learning Community (LLC). The Living-Learning Communities range from first-year experiences and academic disciplines to 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year experience. 11. FULL-TIME GA OPENING IN STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER (SSC) FOR 2016-17 – 2nd posting
The Student Success Center is hiring full-time (20 hrs/wk) graduate assistant for the 2016-17 academic year, reporting to the Associate Director of SSC. The GA will be responsible for assisting with the development, implementation and assessment of the Peer Academic Coaching Program and the Seminar Series on Academic Success and will co-teach and then teach UNIV 1004: College Success Strategies and work individually with students on academic skills and habits. Preference will be given to students pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in education, counseling or a related field, but others with related experiences will be considered. 12. FULL-TIME GA POSITION IN CONTROLLER’S OFFICE FOR 2016-17 – 2nd posting
The Controller’s Office is seeking a full-time (20 hrs/wk) graduate assistant to assist in Accounting Operations. The GA will concentrate on two projects and other tasks as needed: 1) Research state income tax requirements for VT employees working in other states and communicate research results to Associate Controller of Accounting Operations and Payroll Manager, and propose implementation process for paying a third party to do remittances, payroll filings, and quarterly/annual reporting for the university. 2) Convert online training for the campus community on general accounting from Scholar to Adobe Captivate. 13. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR SURVEY ON TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION IMPLEMENTATION – 2nd  posting
Graduate students are invited to complete a survey by June 25 (sooner is better) on factors contributing to the successful implementation of technology innovations. This field study data is part of a dissertation research into the conditions that facilitate the implementation of instructional innovations, like Canvas. The survey contains 49 short statements, and a short set of demographic questions at the end; it should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary and anonymous. 14. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR WEARABLE EXOSKELETON STUDY – 2nd posting
Grad students are invited to participate in a study about a wearable exoskeleton. Participants will be asked to perform simulated assembly tasks (e.g., manual drilling and wiring), both with and without the upper-extremity exoskeleton. Two experimental sessions (~3-4 hour long) are required to complete the study. Compensation: $10/hour.
