Mohamed Mwingi is a student of Government and International Affairs, who is currently getting his Ph.D. in Community Leadership. The Virginia Tech Rowing Team is looking to hire graduate level fitness coaches to its coaching staff. The position is paid, and a part-time faculty position. 31. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED – PHOBIA TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN WHO FEAR DOGS
Children with a specific phobia of dogs ages 4-7 years old needed. Involves 2-4 Assessment sessions, 1 parent training session, 2 follow-up sessions at the Virginia Tech, Child Study Center, 460 Turner St NW #207. No cost for treatment. Earn up to $200 for completing assessment, treatment and follow-up assessments to help with research. 4-Week Bibliotherapy Treatment completed by you and your child at home. You will participate in a training session in our clinic and will be given the book needed to complete the treatment with your child at home. One session treatment (OST) is an empirically supported intervention for children with phobias. If your child still exhibits high levels of fear following the Bibliotherapy Treatment they will be offered one 3-hour treatment session at our clinic. 32. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR FOOT AND ANKLE BIOMECHANICS STUDY – 3rd posting
The Granata Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for participants in a biomechanics study. This study aims to determine how different foot postures (high, normal, and low arches) are affected by ankle braces during walking, running, and cutting. Participation consists of one visit that lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. Must be 18-30, have had no injury in the past 6 months that limited physical activity for more than 2 days, have no history of lower extremity surgery, and will be comfortable completing the athletic tasks. 33. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR EDAMAME ACCEPTABILITY STUDY – 3rd posting
The VT Sensory Evaluation Lab is recruiting volunteers (18+ years old) to participate in a sensory study of edamame (vegetable soybeans). Will be asked to view, smell and taste edamame samples, describe their impressions, and answer a survey. If you have allergies to soy products or are pregnant you are asked to refrain from participating. There is no compensation, but all participants are eligible to enjoy a nice snack after completing the sensory test. Study will be on Feb 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27, Wednesdays (10:00am-5:00pm) and Thursdays (10:00am-1:00pm, or until reaching 90 participants), in the VT Sensory Evaluation Lab in HABB1 room 205 (1230 Washington St SW). Parking passes are available upon request. Time commitment is ~30 minutes. You are welcome to participate in more than one test, but only once per week. Questions or additional information? PLANNING FOR HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH AT VT – SIRC INVESTIGATOR SERIES

Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance (SIRC) invites all students, faculty and staff to the Investigator Series, an enrichment program that provides training on ethical decision-making in research, maintaining objectivity in research, and the ethical requirements for conducting research with human subjects. Zoom available for individuals unable to attend in-person. Participants who attend 4 SIRC Investigator Series trainings will receive a certificate recognizing their effort to seek additional professional development in the ethical conduct of research. These courses complement but will not satisfy graduate program ethics and integrity training requirements. HOKIE HICCUPS – SHARE YOUR STORY!

Often in school it can feel like you’re the only one messing up and everyone else has it together. The truth is, everyone messes up, and that’s okay! That’s what resilience is about — bouncing back from mistakes. Hosted by student org leaders in The Mental Health Coalition and Hokie Wellness, the goal is to remind every Hokie that mistakes are normal and failure is valuable. Hokie Hiccups is an event acknowledging and celebrating the hiccups, failures, and missteps we’ve all experienced in our lives. It’s an opportunity for Hokies to share their stories through different expressive arts and creative mediums. SPEED INTERVIEWING
Monday, Mar 2, 5:30 pm or 6:30pm, GLC Multipurpose Room
Graduate students participating in speed interviewing will have an opportunity to practice honing their interview skills with a variety of professionals and receive valuable, constructive feedback. Students will rotate through stations of questions for approximately 45 minutes. Space for this exciting opportunity is limited and registration is required. Hokie Wellness, the Women’s Center at Virginia Tech and the Roanoke Graduate Student Association are hosting Collaborative Conversations: Empowering a Culture of Respect, a day of collaborative conversations and awareness for those who are seeking to dive a little deeper into the complex topics related to gender, diversity, inclusion, and equity in research and science.
