8. AUDITIONS FOR STAGED READING OF NEW PLAY: RHINO 2020 BY ALI NAMAYANDEH – 1st posting
Inspired by the classic work of absurdist theatre, Rhinocerous by Eugene Ionesco, this play explores the dangers of social extremism in the context of environmental degradation. We invite people of all backgrounds, with or without acting experience, to audition. Auditions will consist of reading from the script. Rehearsals will be based on performer availability, but are tentatively Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm during February, with some added rehearsals in early March. Performance dates will be the week of March 14-18. Audition date: Jan 31, with callbacks on Feb 1. To sign up for an audition click here. 13. GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP OPPORTUNITY WITH SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS – 2nd posting
The School of Performing Arts has a graduate assistantship available for the Spring 2022 semester. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills to write stories, work with social media, and be available nights/weekends for front of house during theatre show runs. This is a 20 hour per week assistantship. 14. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH ON BEER – 1st posting
The Sensory Evaluation Laboratory at Virginia Tech seeks participants to evaluate beer (IRB 21-890). To participate in this study, you must be 21+, regularly consume beer, not allergic to beer/alcohol, covid vaccinated, and not currently pregnant. Panelists will be required to taste six (6) beer samples. The purpose of this study is to learn which beer attributes are important to consumers. This is a research study, and results may be published. When you participate in a sensory panel, you will receive snacks as a token of our appreciation. Participation is voluntary and will not affect your relationship with Virginia Tech or VT SEL. This study takes place in the HABB1 Building, Rm 205 (Corner of Duck Pond Drive and Washington Street). 16. LATINX/LATINO/A/HISPANIC ENGINEERING STUDENTS NEEDED FOR STUDY: UNDERSTANDING THE USE OF THE TERM LATINX IN ENGINEERING STUDENTS – 1st posting

We are conducting a VT research project (IRB#21-910) that we hope will provide information on how Latinx / Hispanic engineering students identify with and relate to the term Latinx. If you are interested in participating in this study, please respond to a quick anonymous survey. To be eligible to participate you should identify as Latinx/Latino/a/Hispanic engineering student. 17. ENDURANCE AND ULTRA-ENDURANCE ATHLETES NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY – 2nd posting
We need highly active athletes (18-60 years of age) for a study examining the relationship between physical activity and total number of calories expended each day (IRB #21-567). Participants must be non-pregnant, vaccinated for Covid-19, with a stable body weight over the past year (±5 lb), and free of cardiovascular, lung, metabolic, kidney disease or cancer. We look for endurance athletes who was completed in marathons, ultra-marathons or Ironman triathlons in the past year, with sustained high level of training for the past 6 months and with no recent injuries or other reasons that have changed the training volume. This study will require 1 virtual meeting and 2 visits to the Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Virginia Tech, which will take approximately 6 hours. 19. FEMALE PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR LOW SPEED SLED TEST RESEARCH STUDY (IRB #17-1008) – 2nd posting
The VT Center for Injury Biomechanics is recruiting female subjects (18-28 yrs) to participate in a research study investigating the effects of muscle bracing on occupant motion and forces during low speed sled tests, similar to pre-crash braking events and low-speed car crashes (IRB #17-1008). Participants will be asked to come in for one pretest visit (~1 hr) and two testing visits (~5 hrs each). During each testing visit, participants will be exposed to 4 sled tests while wearing a sleeveless t-shirt, tight fitting shorts, socks and shoes, a seat belt, mouth guards, and instrumentation attached to the skin with adhesive patches (all of which will be provided). These tests are similar to bumper car impacts. Compensation rate is $20/hr. Participants should be females approximately between 4’10”-5’2″ and 98-108 lbs. Participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, be able to show valid proof of full vaccination, and be willing to wear a mask during each visit. All members of the research team are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, can provide valid proof of full vaccination, and will be masked during the duration of each visit. 20. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR A STUDY EXAMINING HOW CHOLINE INTAKE INFLUENCES HEALTH – 2nd posting
This study will require multiple visits to the lab, consumption of a supplement or placebo, wearing a continuous glucose monitor, and a time commitment of approximately 36 hours. Participants must be 18-79, not taking medications that influence the study results, not have severe obesity, non-smokers, not pregnant, without any major medical problems, without any known choline allergies, and fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  If you are on a diuretic or are taking medications such as aspirin, antibiotics, prebiotics, and probiotics, you are not eligible for this study. You will receive information on your blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body composition and other health information. You may receive up to $400 to compensate you for your time. You will receive $20 for testing sessions 2 through 18. After completing all aspects of the study, you will receive $60. There is no compensation for completing the first session. 21. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR AN AUGMENTED REALITY USER STUDY – 2nd posting
The 3D Interaction (3DI) group is inviting you to participate in a research study with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies. Participants in the study will come to the Moss Arts Center, and will be asked to walk around indoors while wearing an AR headset. Participants will be asked for their comments about some novel interaction techniques. The entire experimental session will take about 45 minutes. The experiment will be audio recorded for researchers’ further interpretations and analysis of user behavioral patterns. Participants need to be English speakers, at least 18 years old, have normal vision (contact lenses are fine, glasses are not supported yet unfortunately).
