2. GPSS RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS – UP TO $1500 AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH EXPENSES – 1st posting
The Graduate and Professional Student Senate is now accepting applications for the senate’s Graduate Research Development Program. The application deadline is August 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Master’s students are eligible to receive up to $1,000 and doctoral students are eligible to receive up to $1500. Funds may be requested for travel, lab analyses, supplies and other expenses incurred for degree-contingent research. $10,000 will be distributed. 3. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES PILOTS SEMESTER-LONG TECHNOLOGY LENDING PROGRAM – 1st posting
For the 2023 – 2024 academic year, the University Libraries is going to be piloting a semester-long technology lending program. Faculty, staff, and students will fill out a request form for equipment, and if we receive more requests than we have equipment available, the decision for who will receive the equipment will be made via weighted random lottery, with research or teaching projects and projects involving a library or TLOS partnership carrying more weight in the lottery. For priority consideration and inclusion in the lottery, requests should be submitted by August 9, others will be considered on a first-come-first-serve basis. The application form and link to the list of equipment available are provided at https://forms.gle/QdMsRM448XNZDx8P9. Please direct any questions about the program to techlending@vt.edu. If this project is successful and meets a need on campus, we will seek to expand and grow the technology available via this program.

College of Architecture, Arts, and Design – This assistantship requires 20 hours per week. Work schedule is flexible, with some required night/weekend work as a theatre front of house supervisor. 17. VP FOR FINANCE SENIOR MANAGEMENT AREA SEEKS GRADUATE ASSISTANT – 2nd posting
The VP for Finance Senior Management Area seeks a full-time (20 hr/week) Graduate Assistant to support initiatives furthering the automation of administrative tasks using various technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA). This is an appointment available for Fall 2023. The GA will work closely with the finance solutions team to compile business requirements, coordinate with business process owners to document changes to current business practices, assist in process re-engineering and change management planning efforts, and independently analyze business case scenarios. The successful candidate should demonstrate familiarity with basic programming constructs, knowledge of process mapping and design, experience with relational databases and query tools, and an ability to manipulate large sets of data. 18. 18-25 YEAR OLDS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON PROCESSED FOOD – 1st posting
The major purpose of this research project is to learn if consuming processed or less processed foods has an impact on how a person’s brain responds to processed foods. Briefly, the full study is 10-12 weeks long with two 14-day periods of controlled feeding where we will provide ALL foods and beverages for you to eat during those times. If you choose to participate, the study will consist of approximately 34 visits and require approximately 33-35 hours of your time. Most of these visits take place in Blacksburg with some taking place on the Roanoke campus. Participants must be 18-25 years of age. 19. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A VIRTUAL REALITY GAMING STUDY – 2nd posting
Virginia Tech researchers in the Cognitive Engineering for Novel Technologies (COGENT) Lab are recruiting participants for a virtual reality research study (IRB# 22-144). The purpose of this research study is to determine how the use of virtual reality impacts our ability to detect objects. During the experiment, you will be asked to use virtual reality (VR) glasses to scan an environment for enemy tanks while flying in an autonomous drone. To enroll in this experiment, you do not need to have any experience with VR. You do, however, need to be 18 years of age or older and have normal, or corrected to normal vision. You will be compensated $10 and the study should last no more than 1 hour. The results of this study may be published and your participation is voluntary and confidential. 20. ENDURANCE AND ULTRA-ENDURANCE ATHLETES NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY – 3rd posting
We need highly active athletes (18-60 years of age) for a study examining the relationship between physical activity and total number of calories expended each day (IRB #21-567). Participants must be non-pregnant, with a stable body weight over the past year (±5 lb.), and free of cardiovascular, lung, metabolic, kidney disease or cancer. We look for endurance athletes who have completed in marathons, ultra-marathons or Ironman triathlons in the past year, with sustained high level of training for the past 6 months and with no recent injuries or other reasons that have changed the training volume. This study will require 1 virtual meeting and 2 visits to the Human Integrative Physiology Laboratory at Virginia Tech, which will take approximately 6 hours. 25.SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS DEEP DIVE

Join us virtually on June 26 – 29, 10am – 3pm EST for the activity-based Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Deep Dive! During this 4-day workshop participants will become familiar with the major required steps of this methodology, practice relevant skills, and consider the many decisions necessary for a successful comprehensive review and synthesis. Instructors for this course include method and search experts at the Virginia Tech (VT) Libraries, a researcher who conducts qualitative systematic reviews with the Social Ecology Lab at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, and a VT statistician with experience helping researchers conduct meta-analyses in the context of educational and health-related research.
