- GRADUATE SCHOOL: Graduate School summer hours: In-person advising, drop-off or pick-up of documents and materials, and a space to study and take a break! Visit 120 GLC, summer walk-in hours will be held on Monday and Thursday 9:00-4:00pm. The Graduate School offices will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for the summer. Staff will be available by phone 540 231-8636 or email grads@vt.edu. If you prefer Zoom advising: request one-on-one assistantship or academic advising by using our online request form to set-up a Zoom session.

1. INDIVIDUAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AT NIGMS – 1st posting

The National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences in particular, have an array of programs designed to help postdoctoral fellows complete research training and transition to independent research careers. This session will focus on a few of these programs (including the F32 and K99 mechanisms) and on the general grant submission and review process at the National Institutes of Health. 2. OPPORTUNITIES IN EUROPE INFORMATION SESSION WITH EURAXESS – 1st posting

Representatives from EURAXESS North America will lead this information session on the opportunities for researchers offered by the European Union (EU) through its research and innovation framework program, Horizon Europe. The talk will cover the EU’s researcher mobility schemes for Virginia Tech researchers to go to Europe, for researchers in Europe to do postdocs at Virginia Tech or the institution of their choice anywhere in the world, and other opportunities through European grants and fellowships, as well as the free EURAXESS services including the EURAXESS Jobs, Funding, and Hosting portals. 9. GRADUATE RESIDENTIAL FELLOW – RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE AT WEST AMBLER-JOHNSTON – 1st posting
The Residential College at West Ambler Johnston is seeking full-time graduate students to serve as a Graduate Residential Fellow. The Graduate Residential Fellow (GRF) is a live-in position with a primary responsibility of assisting the Faculty Principal (FP) with his/ her academic and intellectual goals, offering mentorship to students, and facilitating the creation of a strong sense of community within the Residential College. The GRF works closely with the hall council, Residential Well-Being Student Leaders, the FP, Student Affairs staff, and others to ensure that the goals and aspirations of the residential college are fulfilled. Graduate Residential Fellows are required to hold a concurrent part-time or full-time graduate assistantship. 10. USING 2D CHARTS AND VIRTUAL REALITY TO IMPACT RESIDENTS’ ENERGY AWARENESS ON HOW ENERGY IS CONSUMED THROUGHOUT YOUR HOME – 1st posting
The goal of this research study is to investigate alternative data visualization formats to determine their impact on participants’ ability to read, work with, analyze, and argue about energy consumption data of household appliances. The total time commitment is roughly 1 hour. Participant qualifications: Must be a graduate student. Compensation: $25 Visa Gift Card. 11. INTERVIEW PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR STUDY ON AI & SELF-PERCEPTION – 1st posting
We are currently looking for participants who are interested in sharing their thoughts and experiences related to skincare, their perceptions of their facial appearance, and their attitudes toward using algorithm-based tools designed to assess facial wrinkles. What to Expect: Participation involves a one-time, semi-structured interview lasting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour; The interview will be conducted via Zoom, at a time that’s convenient for you, and the video and audio will be recorded; Topics will include your skincare routine, decision-making process regarding skincare purchases, and your views on using technology to assess skin health Compensation: Entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card (1/10 odds of being selected).
