4. FL-AGEP SEEKS ACADEMIC WOMEN OF COLOR TO BECOME FL-AGEP SCHOLARS – 1st posting
The Florida AGEP Pathways Alliance (FLAGEP), an NSF-sponsored alliance model, is recruiting academic women of color (WOC) to become FL-AGEP scholars. Prospective scholars should be doctoral students (at the prospectus and pre-defense stages), post-doctoral scholars, and early career faculty (pre-tenure). The benefits include: (1) being mentored by a senior scholar in your research area, (2) participating in a 1-week intensive research bootcamp (RBC), (3) receiving a 1-year subscription to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD), and (4) engaging in longitudinal faculty development activities (e.g., invited research talks, teaching apprentices). The objective of the model includes supporting the persistence, recruitment, retention, and promotion of WOC faculty in STEM, or those who intend to become faculty. The scholar model was originally based in Florida but has now gone virtual; therefore, participants are being sought nationally. Please disregard the Florida resident requirement. 5. GSA GA POSITION FOR 2021-22 ACADEMIC YEAR- 1st posting
The Graduate School is looking for a full-time graduate student to support the operation and initiatives of the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) during the 2021-22 academic year. This FT 9-month GA position begins in Aug; some summer wage hours are available. Primary duties include providing administrative and logistical support for GSA operations, assisting with small- and large-scale event planning and execution, and assisting GSA leaders with tasks related to their positions. Required qualifications: ability to work well independently and as a member of a team; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple and ongoing tasks; proficiency with MS Office and Google Office Suites; ability to work Thursday evenings as well as some additional nights and weekends as needed and candidate’s schedule allows; ability to deal with ambiguity and change. 6. RUSSIAN FLAGSHIP PROGRAM SEEKS TUTORS FOR FALL 2021 – 1st posting
The Russian Flagship Program is looking to hire three graduate students as tutors for our Flagship students. The tutors must be fluent in Russian and have previous tutoring experience. 7. PEACE CORPS CAMPUS RECRUITER GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP – 2nd posting
The Center for International Research, Education, and Development (CIRED) at VT is searching for a graduate student who is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer to serve as the part-time Campus Peace Corps Recruiter (20 hours/week). The recruiter will be the main point of contact for people interested in joining the Peace Corps. Subject to the availability of funding, position will begin August 2021 and run through Spring Semester 2022. The successful candidate will receive graduate school tuition remission and a stipend. 8. VP FOR FINANCE SENIOR MANAGEMENT AREA SEEKS GRADUATE ASSISTANT – 3rd posting
The VP for Finance Senior Management Area seeks a full-time (20 hr/week) Graduate Assistant to support initiatives furthering the automation of administrative tasks using various technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA). This is a 9-month appointment beginning 8/10/2021 and ending 5/09/2022. The GA will work closely with the finance solutions team to compile business requirements, coordinate with business process owners to document changes to current business practices, assist in process re-engineering and change management planning efforts, and independently analyze business case scenarios. The successful candidate should demonstrate familiarity with basic programming constructs, knowledge of process mapping and design, experience with relational databases and query tools, and an ability to manipulate large sets of data. A campus unit is seeking two graduate students to fill a wage position (20 hrs per week at $20 an hour). 10. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR BEHAVORIAL STUDIES ON COLLABORATIVE ONLINE CONENT AUTHORING – 1st posting
The Echo Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals to participate in a collaborative writing (e.g., academic papers, project reports) study through which we aim to investigate the communication occurring between collaborators. We are seeking participants who: are 18 years and older, can fill out a survey in English, uses online services, has written collaboratively with others and can participate in the study across multiple sessions. Depending on the role assigned to you by the researchers, your duration of participation and compensation will change. For one role, duration will be up to 240 minutes total: this includes a pre-survey, writing up two essay drafts, finalizing two essays, and filling out surveys after finalizing each essay. Participants in this role will be compensated with an electronic gift card of $50 after participating in the full study, and will have an opportunity to be paid a bonus of $100 if their essay is chosen as the winning essay. For another role, duration will be up to 140 minutes total: this includes a pre-survey, collaborating on two essays, and filling out surveys after collaborating on each essay. Participants in this role will be compensated with an electronic gift card of $20 after participating in the full study, and will have an opportunity to be paid a bonus of $50 if their essay is chosen as the winning essay. Both participants will fill out a pre-study survey as well as complete surveys after each collaboration, and a pair of collaborators will have a chance of winning a bonus ($50 or $100 for each collaborator depending on the role assigned by the researcher) if the collaborated essay is selected as the winning essay. 12. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED: RESEARCH STUDY – EFFECTS OF INTELLIGENT VOICE AGENTS IN AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES – 3rd posting
The Mind Music and Machine Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking individuals to participate in a
study to determine the effects of in-vehicle agents on driver experiences and performance in an autonomous vehicle. During the study, you will be asked to drive in a driving simulator. Criteria for eligibility are 1) active driver with a valid license, 2) age 18+ with good health, and 3) normal vision and hearing. The study will last approximately 60 minutes. Each participant will receive a compensation of $10 for participation.
