1. ISRAEL-IRAN EVENT
Monday, December 5, 12-2pm, Drillfield
In the last 60 days, 300 people have been killed and 14,000 have been arrested in Iran as a result of protesting the dictatorship. Hokies for Israel at VT firmly stands for women’s and minorities’ rights and supports the Iranian uprising. We will distribute FREE Middle Eastern donuts and bring the voice of Iranians to the VT campus during this event. Furthermore, we will express our support for the Iranian community at VT.

3. ITRAAB ARABIC MUSIC ENSEMBLE FALL CONCERT
Tuesday, December 6. 7:30pm, Moss Arts Center, Fife Theater
Founded in 2014 as a project of the Moss Arts Center, the Itraab Arabic Music Ensemble explores traditional and contemporary repertoire from the Middle East, North and East Africa, and Gulf regions. The ensemble performs vocal and instrumental music representing folk and popular music styles, and occasionally original compositions by Itraab members. The Graduate School is seeking nominations for outstanding theses and dissertations; excellence in teaching or service; graduate student of the year; and outstanding interdisciplinary students. These nominations are due by January 20, 2023. In addition to these nominations, each college defines its own nomination criteria and selection process for identifying one outstanding master’s and doctoral student and outstanding mentor per college. 11. GRADUATE PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT – 3rd posting
The Asian Cultural Engagement Center (ACEC) is seeking a graduate student to work 20 hours a week for a Graduate Assistantship. This includes tuition remission and a stipend. 13. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A VIRTUAL REALITY USER STUDY – 1st posting
A Virginia Tech research team is investigating the differences in human interactions with Virtual Reality (VR) environments using different platforms. This study evaluates VR environments and how users interact with them. Therefore, we are looking for participants for a user study entitled “Understanding Human Interactions with Virtual and Augmented Environments and Their Associated Tools (IRB – 20-787)”. Participants will have a chance to experience the state-of-the-art technology of Virtual Reality and interact with developed models using VR wearable headgear and controllers. The entire session will take 60-90 minutes. Participants will receive a $10 Gift card. The participants must be 18+ years old, speak English, and be able to use a computer. 14. CALL FOR PAPERS FOR GPSS ANNUAL RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM – 1st posting
The GPSS Research Symposium is a unique opportunity for graduate and advanced undergraduate students to bring ideas and research findings from different disciplines and showcase their scholarly pursuits and achievements. It provides a platform for exhilarating exchanges of ideas, invigorating interactions, and valuable networking between participants, faculty, departments, and research entities, which could pave the way for interdisciplinary research discussion and future collaboration. 15. SEEKING STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR VT SEXUAL VIOLENCE CULTURE AND CLIMATE WORKING GROUP – 1st posting
The VT Sexual Violence Culture and Climate (SVCC) work group is recruiting Student Representatives to serve on various subcommittees. 16. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR A RESEARCH STUDY – IMMERSIVE DATA ANALYTICS – 1st posting
Traditionally, data analysis and decision-making are done by visualizing data on a 2D screen. However, with new technologies, it is now possible to visualize data in 3D environments using mixed reality headsets such as Microsoft HoloLens. This study aims to evaluate how effective it is to analyze data in a 3D immersive environment using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device in various configurations. The research study will take place in Perform Studio at Moss Arts Center, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, and last about 90 mins. Participants will be compensated $30 upon completion of the study. The study has been approved by Virginia Tech Institutional Review Board (IRB #19-118). 17. TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND COMMERCIALIZATION CAREERS PANEL

Technology transfer and technology commercialization efforts rely on knowledgeable staff at universities to perform assessments of newly disclosed inventions. The ability of PhD-trained scientists to research subject matter within a specific target space, synthesize this available information, and come to a decision on the potential impact of a new technology seeking to operate in the space is critical to this successful review of new technologies. 18. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS DEEP DIVE WORKSHOP
4-day workshop, Jan 9-12, 2023; each day 10am – 3pm with a 1 hour lunch break 12-1pm, Zoom
The Evidence Synthesis Services (ESS) team at the University Libraries in collaboration with the Statistical Applications and Innovations Group (SAIG) will host the third Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Deep Dive, January 9-12, 2023. During this 4-day workshop participants will become familiar with the major required steps of this methodology, practice relevant skills, and consider the many decisions necessary for a successful synthesis.
