5. VT RECREATIONAL SPORTS: SMALL GROUP TRAINING- GRIT – 2nd posting
Small group training combines group exercise with personal training. The Les Mills GRIT™ Series is a 30 minute fitness program that takes cutting edge High Intensity Interval Training and combines it with powerful music and inspirational coaches. Summer Session II will run July 5- August 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-6:15PM in McComas Studio B. That’s 12 sessions for $100. You do NOT need to have a McComas membership to participate. You must be enrolled in at least 5 credits in the fall/spring semesters to use Federal Direct Student Loans. If you enroll for less than 5 credits, Financial Aid will not be able to process your loans. 13. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR RUNNING STUDY – 3rd posting
Graduate students are invited to participate in a running study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab to investigate how the asymmetry between the left and right side of a runner’s body is affected by exhaustion from longer distances. Volunteers between ages 18-35 may participate if:  they run at least 10 miles per week; have not had an injury in the past 12 months that has kept them from running for more than 2 days, and have not had an injury within the past 2 months. Eligible subjects will run two runs: a short, two-mile run, and a long, four-mile run, spaced at least a week apart. Data collected from the study will be used to see if differences in asymmetry patterns exist in an outdoor training environment between long and short runs, and if differences in asymmetry patterns exist between males and females. Graduate students are invited to participate in an Achilles taping study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab. This study tests the effects of a specific Achilles taping technique during running and jumping tasks. Subjects will be outfitted with 3D motion capture markers in order to measure movement and loading during the tasks. Eligible subjects must be between ages 18-35, must participate in athletic activities at least 3 times per week, and have had no leg injuries in the past six months that have kept them from performing athletic activities for more than two days, and no leg injuries at all in the last two months. Yao Wang, a PhD student in HCI invites you to participate in a study (IRB #15676) on how people remember and recall location-based to-do tasks. The study consists of two sessions: the first session takes no more than 20 minutes; the second session takes about 30 minutes. Both the sessions will be conducted in Usability Lab E at McBryde 133. The second session will be scheduled 3 days after the first session at your convenience. In the first session, you will be asked to remember a list of to-do tasks. The VT Language and Culture Institute (LCI) is seeking peer collaborators to interact with Fellows from the Mandela Washington Fellowship. Fellows are ages 25-35 and the purpose of the peer collaborator is to provide each Fellow with the opportunity to get to know about the life of someone in the U.S. who is close to their age, and to share experiences. The only requirement is to commit to meet at least once to have a conversation with one or more of the Fellows. Graduate students are invited to participate in a running study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab to investigate how the asymmetry between the left and right side of a runner’s body is affected by exhaustion from longer distances. Volunteers between ages 18-35 may  participate if:  they run at least 10 miles per week; have not had an injury in the past 12 months that has kept them from running for more than 2 days, and have not had an injury within the past 2 months. Eligible subjects will run two runs: a short, two-mile run, and a long, four-mile run, spaced at least a week apart. Data collected from the study will be used to see if differences in asymmetry patterns exist in an outdoor training environment between long and short runs, and if differences in asymmetry patterns exist between males and females. Graduate students are invited to participate in an Achilles taping study conducted by the Kevin P. Granata Biomechanics Lab. This study tests the effects of a specific Achilles taping technique during running and jumping tasks. Subjects will be outfitted with 3D motion capture markers in order to measure movement and loading during the tasks. Eligible subjects must be between ages 18-35, must participate in athletic activities at least 3 times per week, and have had no leg injuries in the past six months that have kept them from performing athletic activities for more than two days, and no leg injuries at all in the last two months. The VT Data Science and Visualization Lab is recruiting participants for a research study involving the use of eye-trackers, brain activity/EEG sensor and mouse movement and events to evaluate visualization tools. Participants will be asked to perform predefined tasks while recording their eye gaze, cortical activity and mouse movements and events with commercial eye trackers, brain sensor and log printing system respectively. The study will occur between May 10-20, 2016 and will take about two hours of participants’ time, compensated at $15/hr. There is minimal risk involved with this study besides mild discomfort from wearing the brain sensor/EEG headset. Must be  more than18 years old to participate. The effects of different types of information display (i.e. paper-based system, head-down, and head-up display) on walking behaviors will be investigated. Participants will be asked to perform a cognitive task while walking on a treadmill. Different display types will be also used. 17. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR INFO DISPLAY STUDY – 2nd posting
The effects of different types of information display (i.e. paper-based system, head-down, and head-up display) on walking behaviors will be investigated. Participants will be asked to perform a cognitive task while walking on a treadmill. Different display types will be also used. Must be age 18-35; no current or recent history (1 year) of musculoskeletal problems; must have normal or corrected to normal vision; fluent in English; have a smartphone or experience in using smartphones. Participants will be asked to perform walking tasks with different information presentation methods in a laboratory setting in the ISE department. Two sessions (preliminary & data collection).  Compensation: $10/hr, ~ 30 min for preliminary session; ~2.5 hrs in experimental sessions. 19. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR STUDY ON USER EXPERIENCE IN WEB-BASED IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENT – 3rd posting
Participants are sought for a comparative pilot study on user experience for navigation and object selection in web-based immersive environment. The study involves one 60-min session per participant; 20 minutes for actual usability testing and 40 minutes for briefing, training and filling out required forms. Participants will have a chance to win a  $10 Campus Bookstore gift card (a winning chance of 1 in 10). Must be 18 years or older.
