2. GSA DINNER AND KARAOKE @ BULL & BONES

3. GSA HIKE TO THE CASCADES
Saturday, Jun 19, 10:30am, meet in front of GLC (on Otey Street)
Hike with the GSA to this local attraction, a beautiful and fun showcase of Southwestern Virginia. The hike is 4 miles round trip and the waterfalls are at the turnaround point. The trip and hike will take about 3-4 hours. The GSA will get a large van and may need additional drivers and will reimburse drivers for parking and gas. Please join in and tell your friends. 4. GSA SUMMER EVENTS ON GOOGLE CALENDAR AND FACEBOOK
Visit the Google Calendar on the GSA Website  for dates of upcoming events including trips to the New River, the Summer Wine Social, and the annual Welcome Back BBQ! You can also join the GSA Facebook group page (search: VT Graduate Student Assembly) to get up-to-date info for events. Details of each event are sent out in the weekly GSA and Graduate School announcements and posted to the Facebook page. Please direct any questions to VP of Programs Amanda Cronin Rumore.

5. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR DIETARY INTAKE SURVEY – 1st posting
Researchers in the Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise Department are conducting a study to determine the sensitivity to change of a brief dietary intake questionnaire. You may be eligible to participate if you are 21 or older and are in good health. The study involves 14 weekly visits to the VT campus, each less than 30 minutes (excluding the initial 1 hr visit).  Participants will be compensated a total of $45. 6. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR BIOMECHANICS STUDY -1st posting
Participants are sought for a study investigating the effects of flexion and lifting on the biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the human torso.  The study consists of six separate experimental sessions (each lasting approximately 2 hours) and participants will be compensated $10/hour.  To qualify you must be female, between the ages of 18-29, and regularly exercise at least 2-3 times per week.  For more information or to inquire about participation, please contact Brad.

7. GRAD STUDENTS SOUGHT FOR ONLINE ASSESSMENT TOOL EVALUATION – 1st posting
A doctoral student in the School of Education is looking for 30 graduate students to evaluate an online learning assessment system developed for his dissertation. The tool can be tried online; user name is pilot2, password is test2. The evaluation will be conducted online or in a lab, 220 War Memorial Hall. Drinks and pizza will be provided. 8. 2010 GSA EVENTS CHAIR COMMITTEE – 3rd posting

If you have enjoyed GSA events in the past and have wanted to become more involved, then this is your opportunity: the GSA is looking for students who would like to be part of the GSA Events Committee. The committee will be involved in developing new events and helping to make sure the events are a success. If you are interested, please contact the GSA Events Chair, Jay Pembridge.

9. GSA-GPSF LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS – 3rd posting
The GSA is looking for volunteers to serve on the committee for its largest fundraising event, the 2010 GSA Graduate and Professional School Fair (GPSF). The 2010 GPSF will be on Sep 27, 2010, hosting graduate and professional schools from around the country. In order to increase the quality of the event, a small group of volunteers are needed to help with everything from updating the database of schools to helping with management on the day of the event. You do not have to be in Blacksburg during the summer to help- there are plenty of jobs which can be completed remotely. Please email the GPSF Chairs, Atieh Haghdoost and Mehdi Kargar if you are interested in serving on the GPSF Committee.

10. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR SMARTPHONE USE STUDY- 3rd posting

Participants are sought for a study of “Mobile Information in Everyday Human Activity” to explore how smartphone users look up and capture information with their devices in their everyday activities. The study consists of three parts, including a short questionnaire, a diary study, and a follow-up interview. Two $25 gift cards will be raffled off for the diary study among active participants and if you participate in the follow-up interview you get a $10 gift card. To qualify you must be at least 18 years old, own and use a qualified smartphone for at least 6 months, and have an unlimited data plan from your wireless provider.
