Join the Community Change Collaborative for a presentation from Doug Jackson about the Year of the Artist in Roanoke. Doug is the Arts Coordinator for the City of Roanoke while also working with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. He will be sharing a bit about his experience and work in Roanoke and beyond. Specifically, he will share about the power for the arts to foster change.

In this autobiographical solo show, writer-performer Dante Fuoco excavates fifteen years of family home video—not only the sweet early years, curated by Dad, but also the tortured tween years, filmed by son. When Dante’s repressed queer desires are suddenly exposed, he must reckon with telling the truth after decades of lies. 21. GRADUATE SCHOOL SEEKING GRADUATE STUDENT TOUR GUIDES – 3rd posting
The Graduate School is seeking graduate students to serve as tour guides to prospective graduate students for the Spring 2023 semester. Applicants must have good communication skills, an eagerness to share VT with others, familiarity with campus location, and be willing to conduct 2-5 tours a semester. Tours are typically 1.5 hours. The GA working in this position will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Outreach and Student Engagement to help run summer programs in June and July of 2023. This includes five residential, science-based camps for middle school and high school students and one professional development workshop for high school science teachers. Duties include helping to: review and process applications for all summer programs, recruit and select camp counselors, design/manage fun activities for campers, schedule camp activities, assign dorm rooms, answer email, collect and manage forms for all camp and workshop personnel, help manage logistics and supplies during events The GA may work remotely with periodic (at least weekly) in-person meetings with the Assistant Dean. The Granata Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for participants in a research study (protocol IRB# 22-664). This research study aims to determine how performance and pressure forces of the foot are impacted by cleat type and sex assigned at birth. Participation involves one visit that will last approximately 75 minutes. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 18-30, wear a shoe size of men’s 7-12 (women’s 8.5-13.5), currently plays a cleated sport or has played a cleat sport in the last 3 years, have not had any lower extremity injuries in the last six months that limited physical activity for more than two days, and are not pregnant. Reviewers from all disciplines are welcome! Must be a graduate student engaged in research at Virginia Tech, and not a current GRDP applicant. Each proposal consists of an “extended abstract” describing the context, motivation, methods and impacts of an applicants’ research, in addition to a budget and timeline for completion of proposed work. Minimum time commitment is 1.5 hours from January 30-March 10, 2023 – including half hour-long training session and review of at least two proposals. Assistive Robotics Laboratory at Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking healthy male/females who can walk more than 2.5 hours a day (with breaks). The goal of the research project is to predict the walking patterns based on the sensor readings. We need good amount of walking data in order to do so. Volunteers needed for the Mind Music Machine Lab’s study in evaluating music samples that were created through the sonification of fMRI data. This is a Virginia Tech research study (IRB Number: 21-839). The objective of this study is to evaluate usability and user perception on the sonification of fMRI data. During the study, you will be asked to rate different sonification samples based on subjective measures and determine what neurological state each sample represents. The VT Center for Economic and Community Engagement, in partnership with the Virginia Tech Foundation, is conducting a comprehensive study of the university’s contributions to the region and its economy. This study will help to better understand the economic effects of university activity on the Town of Blacksburg, Montgomery County, and the surrounding region. Findings from this study will be shared with partners in and outside of the university, providing a more transparent story of how the university influences the regional economy annually. 34. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR CREATIVE PROGRAMMING STUDY – 3rd posting
We are seeking participants for a study on creative programming for 3D environments. In this study, participants will perform basic programming creative tasks such as creating a forest and a solar system. Participants will use a visual programming language and any level of programming skill is welcome. This research study will be held in the Newman Library 122 and will take approximately one hour. We are seeking participants that: are 18 years or older, can follow instructions in English, have perfect or corrected vision (lenses or glasses), have basic knowledge of programming, understand concepts such as variables, if-statement, loop.
