The Graduate School is seeking nominations for outstanding theses and dissertations; excellence in teaching or service; graduate student of the year; and outstanding interdisciplinary students. These nominations are due by January 20, 2023. In addition to these nominations, each college defines its own nomination criteria and selection process for identifying one outstanding master’s and doctoral student and outstanding mentor per college. Students can contact their department about the college specific awards. All winners will be recognized by the Graduate School during Graduate Education Week 2023, March 27-31. 14. GRADUATE PROGRAMMING ASSISTANT – 2nd posting
The Asian Cultural Engagement Center (ACEC) is seeking a graduate student to work 20 hours a week for a Graduate Assistantship. This includes tuition remission and a stipend. This job requires working closely with the Director of the ACEC to do the following: Event Planning and Assessment, Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications, Student Engagement and Support Services and Diversity Special Projects among others. 16. GA POSITION SUMMER CAMPS AND PROGRAMS – 3rd posting
The GA working in this position will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Outreach and Student Engagement to help run summer programs in June and July of 2023. This includes five residential, science-based camps for middle school and high school students and one professional development workshop for high school science teachers. Duties include helping to:  review and process applications for all summer programs, recruit and select camp counselors, design/manage fun activities for campers, schedule camp activities, assign dorm rooms, answer email, collect and manage forms for all camp and workshop personnel, help manage logistics and supplies during events The GA may work remotely with periodic (at least weekly) in-person meetings with the Assistant Dean. 19. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED FOR CLEAT PERFORMANCE AND PLANTAR LOADING – 3rd posting
The Granata Lab at Virginia Tech is looking for participants in a research study (protocol IRB# 22-664). This research study aims to determine how performance and pressure forces of the foot are impacted by cleat type and sex assigned at birth. Participation involves one visit that will last approximately 75 minutes. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 18-30, wear a shoe size of men’s 7-12 (women’s 8.5-13.5), currently plays a cleated sport or has played a cleat sport in the last 3 years, have not had any lower extremity injuries in the last six months that limited physical activity for more than two days, and are not pregnant. 20. VOLUNTEER TO REVIEW GRADUATE RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PROPOSALS – 3rd posting
Reviewers from all disciplines are welcome! Must be a graduate student engaged in research at Virginia Tech, and not a current GRDP applicant. Each proposal consists of an “extended abstract” describing the context, motivation, methods and impacts of an applicants’ research, in addition to a budget and timeline for completion of proposed work. Minimum time commitment is 1.5 hours from January 30-March 10, 2023 – including half hour-long training session and review of at least two proposals. Volunteers may be assigned to review proposals within their general area of expertise, or entirely outside of it. All work can be done remotely. 21. ISRAEL-IRAN EVENT

In the last 60 days, 300 people have been killed and 14,000 have been arrested in Iran as a result of protesting the dictatorship. Hokies for Israel at VT firmly stands for women’s and minorities’ rights and supports the Iranian uprising. We will distribute FREE Middle Eastern donuts and bring the voice of Iranians to the VT campus during this event. Furthermore, we will express our support for the Iranian community at VT.

The Evidence Synthesis Services (ESS) team at the University Libraries in collaboration with the Statistical Applications and Innovations Group (SAIG) will host the third Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Deep Dive, January 9-12, 2023. During this 4-day workshop participants will become familiar with the major required steps of this methodology, practice relevant skills, and consider the many decisions necessary for a successful synthesis.
