1. JANUARY HOURS FOR THE GRADUATE SCHOOL – 1st posting
We will reopen on Tuesday, January 3. During the weeks before the first semester begins, the Graduate School offices will be open during our regular hours: 9 am- 4 pm. Please note we will be closed on January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, but offices will be open as usual when the semester begins on January 17.

2. REGISTER NOW FOR SPRING 2023 LEADERSHIP COURSES – 1st posting
All graduate students are invited to enroll in Leadership courses for Spring 2023: LDRS 4514 Skills Nonprofit Org Leaders (CRN 22096) online: Understand the skills required to be a successful leader in nonprofit organizations. LDRS 5454 Leadership in Diverse Contexts (CRN 17098) face-to-face: Identification and definition of leadership in formal and non-formal education settings, communities, & organizations. LDRS 5544 Leading Teams through Change (CRN 17100) face-to-face: Theory and techniques for leading tactical, creative, and problem-solving teams through change. Role of social capital and adaption-innovation theories. ALCE 5224 Team Science, Cooperation, and Interdisciplinary Work (10291) online: Theoretical and conceptual basis for thinking about, guiding, and supporting team science and cooperative processes for interdisciplinary research, programming, and outreach. Virginia Tech is now a member of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) network, which provides a variety of professional development opportunities available to graduate students and post-doctoral associates at institutions in the CIRTL network at no cost. 7. EAST AFRICA INSTITUTE FOR EDUCATORS  – 3rd posting
This program is designed to expose Virginia Tech faculty, administrators, and graduate students and Virginia secondary school educators to the languages, cultures, and histories of Tanzania and Kenya in order to gain a more holistic view of East Africa. The summer institute provides educators an opportunity to travel to Tanzania and Kenya for four weeks to acquire first-hand knowledge, experience and resource materials for curriculum development that can be used to enrich African area studies teaching and better integrate global or intercultural dimensions into the university and high school curriculum. 8. GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP OPENINGS FOR TWO Ph.D. STUDENTS – 1st posting
AAEC has funding for two outstanding Ph.D. students available through a USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) National Needs Graduate Fellowships grant. $2,300 monthly stipend, plus tuition waiver. 9. PARTICIPANTS NEEDED TO COMPLETE A BRIEF RESEARCH SURVEY – 1st posting
Participants are needed for a research study on individuals’ views and experiences regarding eating meat. This study consists of one brief, online survey that should take about 10-20 minutes to complete. You may be eligible to participate if you are at least 18 years of age. 10. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS DEEP DIVE WORKSHOP
4-day workshop, Jan 9-12, 2023; each day 10am – 3pm with a 1 hour lunch break 12-1pm, Zoom. The Evidence Synthesis Services (ESS) team at the University Libraries in collaboration with the Statistical Applications and Innovations Group (SAIG) will host the third Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Deep Dive, January 9-12, 2023. During this 4-day workshop participants will become familiar with the major required steps of this methodology, practice relevant skills, and consider the many decisions necessary for a successful synthesis. Attention all graduate-level researchers! Can you explain your research in 90 seconds? Registration for the Nutshell Games is OPEN! Five winners, as determined by a panel of community members, Virginia Tech folks, and a 7th grader, will each receive $500 in professional development funds.
