Connections that Count: Establishing Boundaries
Brought to you by the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education (SVPE) Boundaries are limits or guidelines that we set for ourselves. Boundaries help us let others know what does and doesn’t feel safe or healthy. As you think about setting boundaries, remember: Understand what capacity you have around your time, physical, emotional, and mental needs and wants. It’s ok to say no. If that feels too harsh practice respectful ways to say no like “Thank you so much for thinking about me, unfortunately I don’t have the capacity at this time.” When communicating boundaries, be as clear and calm as possible. As a graduate student, setting boundaries is an important part of taking care of yourself.
